Jazz singer and songwriter Jamie Cullum reckons that Sky1 talent show Must Be The Music was axed because it wasn’t “cruel” enough to the contestants.
Speaking to The Sun’s TV Biz, Jamie said of the show ending, “Not enough people watched it.
“Maybe it wasn’t cruel enough.
“The inherent drama in those shows is the human interest element – when you see people with their screws loose getting pushed around by people who should know better.
“That’s what’s enjoyable about those shows, no matter how much we don’t want to admit it.”
Do you think that’s true? I’m inclined to agree with him. Read more & comment »

Irish teenager Daithi took the Wembley stage in the Must Be The Music final tonight.
The violinist combines his fiddle and a recording loop station to create distinctive sounds for his music. His last track, played on the show’s semi final, reached number three in the alternative UK music charts earlier this month.
Tonight, Daithi played a composition named CI, after his girlfriend Ciara who celebrates her birthday today. We quite liked him, we love his energy and he definitely knows how to work a stage. However, for us, Daithi just didn’t compare to the two acts who preceded him (Pepper and Piano and Missing Andy) and we don’t see him winning tonight.

Dizzee Rascal has admitted that he has no problem Must Be The Music being compared to The X Factor but insists that his show is better.
The ‘Bonkers’ star is preparing for this Sunday’s final of the Sky One Talent show and points to the fact that they promote their artist’s songs on iTunes, allow them to keep all of the profits and give them complete control over what material they perform, to prove that his show is more credible and beneficial to the music industry than the ITV juggernaut.

Must Be The Music judge Sharleen Spiteri, has claimed that X Factor bosses should never have used auto-tuning on their contestants voices.
As the Texas star prepares for this Sunday’s MBTM final, in which Daithi, Emma’s Imagination. Hero, Missing Andy, Pepper and Piano and The Picture will compete for the £100,000 prize, she hit out at the rival ITV show which famously used voice altering technology on it’s first audition show.
Sharleen told The Sun:

11 year old Hero performed on tonight’s Must Be The Music semi final.
The young singer has already earned enough from busking to record her own album but wants to win the MBTM prize money so that she can afford to purchase her own harp too.
Tonight she sang her own composition ‘Swept Away,’ which the judges first heard at her initial audition. Hero previously admitted that the song was dedicated to a boy she met on holiday, who took her phone number but never called when they returned home.

Five piece group Missing Andy performed on tonight’s Must Be The Music semi final.
The British band have previously performed alongside the Pigeon Detectives and The Wombats at South by Southwest Festival in Texas after R.E.M pulled out.
They passed their MBTM audition by performing ‘Made In England’, which was incredibly catchy but sounded a bit like a football anthem. Before they took to the stage Jamie Cullum wondered what their new song would be like and worried that it wouldn’t compare to their first offering. He said:

27-year-old Singer/Songwriter Emma performed on tonight’s Must be The Music, battling for her place in the show’s final.
The crew kind of threw Emma onto the stage but she impressed us with her acoustic guitar and a sweet, slightly breathy vocal. ‘This Day’ was a beautiful song, and Emma’s vocals were perfect. The Sky Twitter team claimed that the quirky beauty was already at #85 on iTunes before she even played a note. Do they have another Pepper and Piano style success on their hands?
