Next year’s Dancing on Ice, series eight, has been confirmed as starting on on January 6, 2013, we are happy to report.
The announcement was made by ITV over social networking site twitter, who said to fans:
“It’s back! Dancing on Ice returns 6.15pm Sunday 6 January on ITV1,”

Dancing On Ice bosses have made the drastic decision to sack a whopping eight of its professional skating stars, in order to make the budget more available for high-end celebrities taking part next year, The Sun newspaper reports.
The show, due to begin in January, is also headed for a huge revamp, with new twists and format changes, in a bid to make this series the best ever.

Matthew Wolfenden admitted that he was daunted and overwhelmed when it came to choreographing his own routine to The Bolero this week.
The Emmerdale actor won the chance to perform the iconic routine on the final of the ITV series, after Chico Slimani was eliminated earlier this evening and in the rehearsal VT head coach Karen Barber revealed that she was impressed by how much input Matt had into the choreography and how much he led during the practice sessions.
The only guidance given by Torvill and Dean was:

The hunky actor was asked to pick his favourite routine of the ITV series to date, to repeat on tonight’s last show of the year and the Emmerdale star opted for he and professional partner Nina Ulanova to skate once more to Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now.’
Matthew Wolfenden had an extra pressure when he performed on Dancing On Ice this evening, because as well as nailing his own routine with professional partner Nina Ulanova, the Emmerdale star also had the responsibility of being team leader for the boys’ group routine later in the show.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, that’s a whole other blog post! Firstly, the hunky actor took to the rink to perform with Nina and as always, we found it hard to believe that he was not a pro skater before he started on the series.
Matthew Wolfenden admitted recently that he is loving every aspect of Dancing On Ice, especially his bright and skintight costumes and that energy and enthusiasm really shone through when he took to the rink tonight.
The Emmerdale hunk may have been slightly nervous when he first saw the routine which Torvill and Dean had choreographed for his rock themed performance this evening, especially as he realised that it would probably be the most intricate piece of skating that he has done on the show so far.
Matthew Wolfenden has been one of the front runners for the most of this year’s series of Dancing On Ice, so we weren’t all that concerned for him during tonight’s Ultimate Skills episode.
Yes, there would be a triple skate off and a double elimination, however Matt, Chico and Jorgie Porter have been so far ahead of their fellow competitors for the last number of weeks, that we fully expected him to excel this evening!
Matthew Wolfenden lost his bookies favourite title to Jorgie Porter earlier this week and so had a point to prove when he returned to the rink on Dancing On Ice this evening.
The Emmerdale star seemed to struggle throughout the week’s rehearsals and was stressed by his failure to shine on last week’s show and also the more difficult routine, which Torvill and Dean choreographed for tonight.
Matthew Wolfenden had a bit of a tough week on Dancing on Ice before tonight’s show, as he missed two days of rehearsals due to a back injury.
The Emmerdale star had to sit out a few practice sessions over the past seven days and even when he did get back on the rink, he had to miss out some of the big lifts for a couple of more days, until his back had healed sufficiently.
Matthew Wolfenden skated to ‘Saturday Night Fever’ on tonight’s Dancing On Ice.
The Emmerdale star was elated with his song choice, as he performed the track before during a theatre tour however things took a negative turn and disaster struck during rehearsals, when he dropped his partner Nina and then fell on top of her.
