Paul O’Grady has admitted that he would consider joining the judging panel of Britain’s Got Talent, when it returns to ITV next year.

The TV funnyman has been linked to the reality TV series over the last few years but has never taken a seat on the panel. However ever since the departure of Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff the rumour mill has stepped up a notch and today, Lily Savage’s alter ego admitted that he would strongly consider any offers to joint the judging lineup.

He told The Mirror:

“I’d consider it most definitely, but if they did ask me I’d have to have a good think.”

Paul added:

“You have to sit through all those bum acts at the auditions – some of them are dreadful. And I really hate the ones that say they’re burlesque artistes. No you’re not, you’ve got a bit of tinsel wrapped round your bra.”

“I’d be very worried that I’d say too much. It’s a tough job. You’ve got to be honest with people, but you can end up [being] ‘Mr Nasty’ or bland.

“I’d be honest, but I couldn’t tell kids they were rubbish – I wouldn’t be able to sleep when I got home if I reduced somebody to tears. I’d hate it. Who wants to earn a living doing that?”

It has recently confirmed that Simon Cowell will be be on the 2012 series of Britain’s Got Talent and insiders say that he wants to bring Eastenders star Barbara Windsor on board.

Other stars linked to the ITV show have been Samantha Womack, David Walliams and Dannii Minogue.

Amanda Holden will be one of the first celebrities to be interviewed by Paul O’Grady on his new chat show.

It will be the Britain’s Got Talent judge’s first TV interview since her baby son was stillborn earlier this year, seven months into her pregnancy and insiders say she wanted Paul to be the person she talked to about the horrific experience, because of his caring nature.

Other guests confirmed for the first episode include John Cleese, Rupert Everett and Charlotte Church.

Paul returns to ITV on Friday the 15th of April, after four years of hosting a similar chat show on Channel 4.

On going back to ITV, he previously said:

“I’m really looking forward to being back behind my desk!

“We’ve got some fabulous guests lined up and I’ll be having a good gossip and getting up to my usual antics!”

Paul O’Grady has admitted that he turned down a role on the judging panel of Britain’s Got Talent.

The comedian and TV presenter revealed that Simon Cowell wanted him to join the judging panel of the ITV show, but he couldn’t bear to be mean to young children.

Paul told The Sun:

“I was tempted but I wouldn’t be able to deal with seeing kids upset at getting buzzed and booed off.

“I could handle me getting booed – no problem, I’ve had the lot.

“But it’s not for me to watch kids get rejected. And to be honest, I’ve got no ambitions left. I think I’ve done it all.”

Cowell went on to hire British comedian Michael McIntyre and American actor David Hasselhoff for the panel and will return to judge when the show reaches it’s live stages in May.

Paul O’Grady has admitted that he would like to judge on next year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent.

The chat show host has been tipped as a replacement for Simon Cowell, after it was claimed that the music mogul would be absent from the 2011 nationwide auditions.

“I have not been formally approached,” Paul told What’s On TV. “But I would consider it.”

He added: “I think that show needs something now. I’d be a very practical judge. I wouldn’t do anything snide, no sniggering behind my hand. I’m cursed with a conscience, so I’d let them down nicely – you don’t have to rip them to shreds.”

“Unless of course they’re these hideous, arrogant monsters who come out and start abusing the judges,” he laughed. “Then I’d let them have it!”

A newspaper report today suggests that comedian and chat show host Paul O’Grady may join the judging panel of BGT as a replacement for either Simon Cowell or Piers Morgan.

Simon had of course stated that he intends to skip the auditions stages of the show in future, and Morgan is leaving altogether to take up his new post hosting a live show in place of CNN’s Larry King.

The Sun reports that a show insider said, “Paul is famous for being a no-nonsense operator.

“He’d be perfect.”

The row occured when Paul O’Grady announced he was moving his hit chat show from ITV to Channel Four and although ITV regularly rent out their London Studio to other TV stations they have denied Paul the use of both it and its camera crew.

Paul, 46, said: “I’m not working for these petty tyrants anymore. The ban is pure spite.

“I’ve told them I won’t be doing the Soap Awards or Simon’s show. I will lose money but I would rather be sweeping the streets than working for ITV.”

Paul wanted to continue recording his show at The London Studio because he liked the camera crew. He said: “It’s ridiculous. Anyone can rent a studio there. They make BBC, Channel 4 and ITV shows. At first there was no problem, now they’ve changed their minds.”

I really admire Paul for sticking to his principles, but in the end they will fill his shoes and it will be him who loses out. To be honest in his place I think I would have found another studio!
