Stephen Mulhern has claimed that the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judges and audience should have learned not to judge acts on their appearance.

The magician and TV presenter – who hostsITV2 spin-off show ‘Britain’s Got More Talent’ – thinks people should know by now, not to judge auditionees on how they look or what they wear.

Speaking about 19-year-old hopeful Michael Collings, who stunned the judges despite his scruffy appearance and hoody/tracksuit outfit, Stephen told ITV1′s ‘This Morning’: “When will we learn? When we looked at Michael we all made our judgments.

“We did it with SuBo, we did it with Paul Potts, this year surely we should have learned from our mistakes.

“When he came on, even Amanda and Michael thought he looked like he was from easyJet. But if you closed your eyes and listened to him, he was just unbelievable. I hope he does well.”

Stephen’s comments come after judges Amanda Holden, David Hasselhoff and Michael McIntyre slated Michael for his scruffy appearance on Saturday night’s (16.04.11) show.

However, following his performance, Amanda explained: “It’s the Susan Boyle moment. When someone like that walks on stage, you judge them. It’s bad but it’s human nature, you look at someone and think about how they’re presented rather than who they are.”

A movie based on the life story of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts is going ahead and it’s landed a top Hollywood director to take it to the big screen.

It was earlier reported that the film had been axed after the studios hesitated on the project for too long. British producer Matthew Vaughn told The Sun last year:

“It should have gone ahead. Simon and I had a good vision for how the film should be, and it would have been brilliant.

“But the studios were umm-ing and ahh-ing and they missed the opportunity to do it.

“It’s tragic, because the script was brilliant. Simon had done a great job.

“I was looking forward to working with him and it would have been a big hit.”

However Deadline now reports that the movie is back on and will be directed by Marley & Me’s David Frankel, also responsible for The Devil Wears Prada.

It will be titled ‘One Chance’ and will be made in Potts’s native Wales. Filming is planned for April 2011 and an unknown actor is expected to take on the lead role.

In recognition of being where Paul first started singing at the age of 5, the Britain’s Got Talent star gave his worldwide premiere of a track from his forthcoming album, Cinema Paradiso in Bristol at the Harbour Festival.

It is his version of the Celine Dion classic, My Heart Will Go On, sung in Italian as Il Mio Cuore Va.

Cinema Paradiso is due out in Asia and Europe next month, while Canadian fans will have to wait until October for the record.

Paul Potts has reportedly been dropped from Simon Cowell’s record label.

The talented opera singer was signed by Syco records after winning the 2007 series of Britain’s Got Talent. He went on to tour the world, release two top ten albums and rake in approximately £5 million in the following years.

However all this isn’t enough for Mr Cowell and last night a source told The News Of The World: “Simon thinks the game’s up for Paul. They no longer saw eye to eye on everything and parted ways.”

An industry insider said: “As soon as Susan Boyle came along it was bound to be curtains for Paul. SuBo captured the world’s imagination and it was hard to compete.”

Despite the news, Paul has just completed his third album ‘Cinema Paradiso.’ It will be released in Asia this September, while fans in Europe and Canada will have to wait until October for their copy. It seems that Mr Cowell might be wrong about Paul Potts after all!

A movie based on the life story of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts has been cancelled.

Simon Cowell had been working with British producer Matthew Vaughn and Paramount pictures on plans for the motion picture and rumours suggested that Jack Black and Vince Vaughn were both being considered for the lead role. However, the rags to riches story will not be going ahead and producer Vaughn is blaming the studios for delaying the project for so long.

Matthew told The Sun:

Former Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts has decided to embark on a 190 mile walk in aid of the people of Haiti.

The opera singer is currently touring Tokyo with his wife Julie but plans to walk from his hometown of Port Talbot to his concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

On his Justgiving homepage Paul wrote:

“If you have come here you will have seen that I have had a moment of craziness and decided that the best method of travel to my fundraising concert for SOS Children’s Village’s appeal for Haiti is by foot.

“It is a 190-mile walk from my front door in Port Talbot to the front doors of the Royal Albert Hall, and I will be walking through the towns and cities of Cardiff, Newport, Chepstow, Chippenham, Hungerford, Reading and Windsor on my way to London.

“I plan to achieve this in seven days. It is an honour and a privilege for me to be asked to perform at such a great event in the number one venue in the UK. Please give as much as you can afford, however small (or large!) that may be.

“Thank you so much for your support for the children of Haiti.”

ITV are reportedly planning a new reality TV show, in which popstars will retrain as opera singers.

After a bit of training, the stars will perform live each week and be voted out in the style of X Factor or Britian’s Got Talent. Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts is being lined up to perform and may also mentor the hopefuls.

The Sun reports that Katherine Jenkins, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson are all being considered as judges.

A source said:

“We are talking about people like Will, Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud and Mutya from the Sugababes.

“It’s all about getting people out of their comfort zones. It is a tough call for an established singer, as they could end up struggling with some of the notes in opera.”

Simon Cowell has reportedly offered to help out with next years English World Cup Anthem.

The News Of The World claims that Cowell would like to choose the singer for the track.

An FA source said: “There’s great optimism for the England team after the stunning way in which they qualified for the World Cup. The plan is for the official song to be an absolute show-stopper that will help carry the boys all the way to the final.

“Clearly, Simon Cowell’s involvement would pretty much guarantee chart success. He’s expressed a real interest in getting one of his biggest acts on board and it is being considered very seriously.”

The insider said that Leona Lewis or JLS were most likely to sing the song, personally I’d prefer Paul Potts.

“The FA wants the soundtrack to South Africa 2010 to get the whole country singing,” the source said. “They’re planning for success in the charts and the tournament.”
