Pete Waterman has commented that if Cheryl Cole ever wants to stand a chance of achieving happiness, she needs to give up on her TV and music career and concentrate on her personal life.

The 64 year old record producer – who was the original Mr Nasty when he first discovered Cole on Popstars: The Rivals – told The Sunday Mirror that he thinks Cheryl needs to get over her recent X Factor sacking and settle down with her ex-husband Ashley.

He explained:

“I think Cheryl should now and go and have babies with ASHLEY. They’ve got back together so they obviously like each other.”

Pete has known Simon Cowell since 1984 and shed some light on his recent decision to cut Cheryl from his new American reality TV show. He added:

“What happened with her in America is show business. Simon’s a business man – he will always come first and everyone else is a puppet.”

Despite his reality TV past, Waterman has recently criticised the genre on many occasions and has insisted that he will not appear on any similar programmes in future.

Music producer Pete Waterman was hired to write this year’s British entry for the Eurovision song contest and is due to give the public their first listen of the track tonight. However, yesterday the former Pop Idol judge admitted that he still hasn’t finished writing the tune.

The song is due to be played during tonight’s BBC1′s Eurovision: Your Country Needs You at 8.30pm.

The Sun quote Pete as saying: “I’m still 24 hours away from hearing the completed track.”

Here’s hoping he gets it done in time. If not, the BBC may decide to bring back Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Pete Waterman has revealed that Simon Cowell has one big ambition…..he wants to win the Eurovision Song Contest.

Pete is penning this years UK entry and reveals that he knows Mr Cowell will be desperately jealous of his newest project.

The former Pop Idol judge told Radio Times: “I have a sneaky suspicion this will needle him more than anything else I’ve done. The one thing he’s always wanted to do is Eurovision.”

Pete will follow in the footsteps of Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote last year’s Eurovision entry. The public will choose the singer who will front Britain’s campaign.

Pete laughed: “I wouldn’t be doing it this year if it wasn’t for him. At least he failed – I can’t do any worse than he has.”

The man responsible for the pop careers of Jason Donovan, Rick Astley, Big Fun and Sonia will produce this year’s UK entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Pete Waterman will write the song, which will then be performed at Eurovision 2010 in Oslo this May.

The former Pop Idol judge said: “Eurovision is one of those iconic competitions that has stood the test of time and keeps coming up with great acts, great tunes and great performances.

“Life’s full of challenges and I’m relishing the opportunity to put my own stamp on this one.”

This is the first time Pete has been directly involved in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Executive Producer Phil Parsons said: “This year, with an extremely successful pop writer, the aim is to build on the UK’s success while moving on in style and doing something different.

“Pete Waterman has an incredible track record of hits that are known all around Europe so we’re thrilled that he has taken on Eurovision.”

Last year, the UK signalled a change of direction in its approach to the contest when Andrew Lloyd Webber and American songwriter Diane Warren collaborated to produce It’s My Time, performed by Jade Ewen.

The aim was to restore some much-needed national pride in the competition after the UK had fared so poorly in recent years.

The strategy was successful as the UK finished in a respectable fifth place with, by common consent, a vastly-improved entry.

There were also changes to the song contest itself with voting split in each country between the public and a panel of industry experts.

Former Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman has claimed that Simon Cowell will be the real winner of this year’s X Factor and that the actual winner will find him or herself retreating into ‘musical oblivion.’

Waterman wrote in The Daily Mail: “I haven’t ever seen any of the finalists. I haven’t heard them sing.

“But I can guarantee they all have decent but unremarkable voices, no discernible personalities – and some heart-rending tale to tell about a granny who’s died, a distant cousin with a drug habit or some other such sob story.

“Will any of them have the elusive X Factor? Absolutely not. And I can promise you another thing – when the interminable farrago of karaoke wailing and crooning is over for another series, we’ll barely hear a peep out of this year’s winner again.”

He added: “So if you were to ask me who the real X Factor superstar is – the most enduring, unforgettable personality of the show’s entire series – I’d have no hesitation in telling you. It’s Simon Cowell.

“And here’s another thing – Simon has no interest in acts with longevity. After all, he doesn’t want last year’s winners hanging around when the latest tranche of newcomers is being primed for a fresh series.

“So whoever wins on Saturday – whether it be Olly, Joe or East London’s sweet-voiced Stacey – they’ll be permitted to release their album. Then they’ll retreat into musical oblivion.”

Former Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman, has hit out at ITV’s X Factor saying that it has nothing to do with music or talent.

In an interview with NME.com Waterman was asked if he minded not being a judge on the show. He replied:

“No! No, because I was offered it and turned it down. People see these talent shows as ‘the way to do it’. But they’re not.”

He added: “Don’t get fooled by ‘The X Factor’. The fundamental question is this: What do you know about music? Are you in this for music or fame? And the musical genre – pop, rock, whatever – is irrelevant here.”

“I’m still a cheerleader [for reality music shows] but what you’ve got now is not the show I was on ['Pop Idol'], which was why I walked off series two,” he said.

He concluded: “The cheating has taken over! It’s irrelevant that there’s even music on these shows.”

This evening on Live From Studio Five, music mogul and ex-Pop Idol judge, Pete Waterman, held nothing back when commenting on Simon Cowell’s ruthlessness following the shock decision to go to deadlock on Sunday’s X Factor, resulting in Welsh favourite, Lucie Jones being booted off the show.

Waterman said: “I think everybody’s got the show wrong, there is only one star in the show and that’s Simon Cowell. It’s the Simon Cowell show and that’s what people watch, all the rest is irrelevant.”

“I believe that you know, when the producer or director talks to Simon ten minutes before he goes off air, the director says come up with something that we can keep running until Saturday night and he just drops it in.”

On Jedward: “When Simon gets that 18 million audience and he says thank you very much lads, it will be see you later, you’ve served your purpose. Then they’ll go round the clubs, for you know three grand, they’ll make a good living. They’ve got no talent, they can’t sing, they can’t dance.”

Discussing the fellow music mogul, he said: “I spotted in Simon a ruthlessness which I’ve never seen anywhere. Simon is, he has one fixation and that’s being successful and he’ll cut through anything, you know.”

“Well in Pop Idol of course everybody forgets that in the first series of Pop Idol I was the bad guy and got all the fan mail and then suddenly Simon did a quick change when he saw how much fan mail I was getting.”

Pete Waterman has hit out at ITV’s X Factor, saying that it is more about the judges than the contestants.

Writing in The Independent, Waterman described The X Factor as “the greatest television show in the world – but that’s not talent”.

He continued: “The problem for me is that kids believe that this is a talent show. It’s not. It’s a freak and geek show. It’s about ratings. That Cheryl Cole has sold more downloads as the judge than the winner of The X Factor proves that it’s a bigger promotion for the judges than it is the contestants on the show.”

Waterman said that TV talent shows began their journey away from finding actual talent on the second series of Pop Idol in 2003.

“The credit in the first Pop Idol goes to the people who trawled through and edited the performances, picking a balance between fun and talent,” he explained. “But that all went out of the window on Pop Idol 2. You had to have someone who cried, someone who died, someone with one leg.”

Pete Waterman has said that he would only join the X Factor judging panel if he was offered £1 million.

The former Pop Idol judge said this would be necessary as he feels that contestants are now “exploited” on TV talent competitions. I don’t know how him getting paid an extortionate amount of money would help.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Waterman explained: “I’m not going to sit in a room with a mum accusing me of being deluded because these people shouldn’t be in a room where someone is going to be brutal and tell them the truth if they don’t understand what the show is about.

“I’m not going to sit and talk about things I know I shouldn’t be, talking to some poor kid in front of a camera who’s not stable. There are people who shouldn’t be on TV because they can’t cope. I don’t think we should take advantage of vulnerable people.”

Asked if he would ever join the show, he commented: “If they offered me a million pounds I might go back.”

Simon Cowell is rumoured to have fallen out with pal, Pete Waterman after he took the mickey out of talent show judges on Peter Kay’s new Channel 4 comedy.

Pete told The Sun: “Simon isn’t returning my phone calls. He’s one of my best mates but has fallen out with me. He hasn’t got a sense of humour.”

Pete recently rang Simon to gloat about the Channel 4 show’s success.

He said: “I rang him so he could say, ‘Your comedy acting is genius, Pete’. But it seems he doesn’t think it’s at all funny.”
