The Who star, Roger Daltrey, has called BBC TV show, Strictly Come Dancing “rubbish telly” in a recent interview.

Daltrey is pals with former Eastenders star, Phil Daniels who was booted off the show after his first dance. When asked if he watched Phil on the show Daltrey told Teletext: “Phil’s a great bloke, and a very funny man. But Strictly Come Dancing? Leave off.

“It’s rubbish telly. Phil’s better than that show – he must have only been doing it for a laugh.”

Poor old Phil the Parklife man was the first contestant to be booted off Strictly Come Dancing this year.

For a guy who looks like such a cool geezer, I really expected him to have more rythmn and style than he did, in fact the only person worse than him last night was Gary Rhodes, though he obviously won the sympathy vote this week!

I bet Phil’s dance partner Flavia is furious, having gotten as far as the finals last year with Matt Di’Angelo. Not only has she been the first professional to leave the show this year, but she didn’t even get a new boyfriend out of it. Sucks to be her!

Phil Daniels (Strictly Come Dancing partner is Flavia Cacace)

Phil is known to many people as Jimmy from cult film Quadrophenia, whilst the Britpop generation know him as the voice on Blur’s hit single Parklife. More recently, he played Kevin Wicks in BBC One’s EastEnders.

Phil made his acting debut in 1976 playing a waiter in Bugsy Malone. He later did voiceovers for animated films such as Chicken Run and appeared in comedy shows including Sunnyside Farm, Time Gentlemen Please, Gimme Gimme Gimme and Outlaws.

Phil joined EastEnders in 2006 as Kevin Wicks, who brought up his three kids single-handed when wife Shirley ran out on the family. His character died in a car crash in a New Year’s Eve storyline in December 2007.

Phil says: “I hope I will surprise myself and be good at dancing – I just hope I don’t fall over or forget the steps!”
