Ruth Lorenzo is about to release her debut single in Spain.

The 27 year old singer came fifth in the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008 and ‘Burn’ from her debut album ‘The Raspberry Pattern’ is available to download from Spanish iTunes from today.

Although Ruth did sign a deal with record label EMI on leaving the ITV show, she left them after a year and is now striking out on her own.

She previously told Unreality TV:

EMI were in a complicated situation anyway, business and financially. So they weren’t really coming to a path. Everybody was everywhere and I needed a bit of direction. I needed people to follow direction and to go with me where I wanted to go and everybody was just lost. So I left.

Ruth also told us that she doesn’t see a long term career for herself in the UK, because people don’t tend to buy her style of rock music here. She explained:

‘My plan is not to stay in the UK, because rock and roll doesn’t really do much here. All your guys’ rock bands do better outside normally. We already have a little tour booked in Germany, and nobody knows out there who Ruth Lorenzo is.’

With images of unbeknown, fresh-faced, pop star wannabes gracing the tabloid front pages and a new wave of Cheryl mania, it can only mean one thing: X Factor 2010 is well underway. Whether you are tuning in to admire Cheryl’s LBD, lust over Danni’s new do or simply to watch Simon and Louie attack one another’s acts there is no denying that this year’s X Factor will be keeping many of us glued to our tele over the forthcoming Saturday nights.

Not to be forgotten from past years gone by, we thought it only fitting to revisit some of the acts who made the winters of 2005 – 2008 that bit more bearable. Love them or hate them, there will be a few surprises (and sniggers) when you find out just with what this bunch have been up to….

ANDY ABRAHAM (Came second in 2005)

Nice guy Andy had a busy time after X factor, undertaking 2 tours in 2006, and a third in 2008/2009. After releasing 3 fairly successful albums, he was chosen by the public to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with his track “Even If”. Sadly he came last and has since been trying to salvage his reputation by signing with a new management company, appearing on ‘Live From Studio Five’, raising money for The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust and presenting an award at the 2010 Urban Music Awards. Interestingly, he is joining forces with soul legends Alexander O’Neal, Kenny Thomas and Eddie Holman to perform in 15 UK performances during November and December 2010.

SAME DIFFERENCE (Came third in 2007)

Cringe-worthy sibling duo Sean and Sarah have been regulars on the holiday camp scene entertaining youngsters at Pontins, as well as performing cheesy pop at Pride events including London, Manchester and Cardiff. In August they released single ‘Shine On Forever (Photo Frame)’ which will feature on their second (yes, second!) album to be released in January 2011. One for your diaries, perhaps?

RHYDIAN ROBERTS (Came second in 2007)

Strange but successful Welsh singer Rhydian’s debut album sold 500,000 copies and last year he performed a sell-out UK tour. As well completing a second album, he performed ‘O Fortuna’ at this year’s classical BRIT awards. Rhydian is next set to star in his first musical ‘War of The Worlds – Alive on Stage!’. He will perform in a total of 19 international shows alongside Jason Donovan and Atomic Kitten’s Liz McClarnon, kicking off in Amsterdam in November.

BAD LASHES (Came twelfth in 2008)

This girlband foursome joined just a week before they auditioned on X Factor and sadly were booted off after their first live performance. They are, amazingly, still together with things set to get ‘even crazier’ for them according to their site. Such craziness has so far included switching on Durham’s Christmas lights, supporting Sean Kingston, a St Tropez promotional tour and a few Butlins gigs at Minehead. So far 2010 has been a quiet year for them though with just three bookings: a charity performance and two private parties. Weirdly there have been no updates on their website, blog or Facebook since March when they stated that they were moving to London.

RUTH LORENZO (Came fifth in 2008)

Sexy senorita Ruth was a firm favourite of Simon Cowell’s (for obvious reasons) but surprisingly only made it to fifth place. Ruth has since left music company EMI due to ‘creative differences’ and has spent the past 2 years independently developing her album, citing to fans that she wants to ‘make an album that they deserve, not another expendable pop record that remains forgotten in time’. On her crusade, she is asking fans to donate money for the video and marketing budget of her debut single. So far she has raised $4,470 which equates to around £2408. Going by that sum, expect to be waiting around another 8 years for her album!

Ruth Lorenzo - X Factor 2008

After coming fifth in 2008’s X Factor and touring the UK & Ireland, Ruth Lorenzo is now pursing her musical career as an independent artist. She has been combining the preparation of her own album with writing for other artists. As seen on ITV series ‘Dannii: Style Queen’, Ruth has been heavily involved in the creative process of Dannii Minogue’s upcoming album, due next year, and continues to write songs for her former mentor.

She is currently putting the finishing touches to her debut album: “I have been working with some extremely talented writers and producers on a collection of songs of which not only I am proud of, but which represents who I am as an artist, writer and performer. “I’m a little bit scared, because I’m exposing my heart and soul, and people will judge me. But singing is all I’ve ever wanted to do. Now I’m ready”.

Former X Factor star Ruth Lorenzo has been singing the praises of her former mentor Dannii Minogue.

The Spanish singer has been working with Minogue on her new studio album and will even appear on her ITV2 show ‘Dannii Minogue:Style Queen.’

Speaking to Star magazine, Ruth revealed that she is having a ball helping to write songs for Dannii’s new record. The whole process has brought the pair even closer, so that Ruth now describes the Australian star as ‘like a sister to me.’

Ruth said: “She’s so genuine and amazing. She’s been like a sister to me since I moved to the UK. We have recorded one so far called Cos You’re Beautiful. I sang the backing vocals. I’m not sure if she will release it as a single because she’s still working on her album, – but I’m writing for her on that, too.”

She added: “She’s going to shock everyone this year. That baby has come with good, positive energy for her. Kris [Smith – Dannii’s boyfriend] is adorable and she has all these amazing people around her who love her. It’s her time to shine.”

Ruth Lorenzo - X Factor 2008

Dannii Minogue has hit the recording studio again and the star has teamed up with singer songwriter Ruth Lorenzo for her latest album.

The X Factor judge mentored the Spanish singer on the 2008 series of the hit show and cameras from her ITV2 fly on the wall documentary, captured the pair recording one of Ruth’s songs ‘Cos Your Beautiful’, which Dannii has fallen in love with.

Ruth told The Sun:

“She was rocking out with her big belly doing air guitar. She loved it. I said if she wanted to sing it she could have it. We got in the studio and it was so much fun.”

Admitting that she was nervous about her first studio session since she recorded Neon Nights in 2003, Dannii added:

“Its been pushed back to my agenda for a long time. I think since X Factor came on the scene I’ve been heavily involved in the mentoring of other people and helping their music career. It’s kind of scary for me today because it’s like getting back on the horse. I think I’ve copped quite a bit of flack over the year’s for the music, “it’s not been as good as our sister’s or it’s not charted this or it should have done that” but I’ve loved it and enjoyed it and I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve got to get some confidence with it and right now I don’t have that.”

Rachel Hylton- X factor 2008

Former X Factor contestant Rachel Hylton has reportedly claimed that Dannii Minogue neglected her on last year’s series of the show.

The singer, who we distinctly remember as having a huge chip on her shoulder, claimed that Dannii was more interested in Ruth Lorenzo than her. Surely that can’t have been because Ruth was more talented…..

Speaking to Voice Online Hylton admitted: “I’m very happy for Alexandra [Burke] and JLS, but I’m also a bit gutted for myself. I didn’t get the support that they got from their mentors.

“Dannii didn’t know what to do with me and spent much of her time mentoring Ruth Lorenzo, who was in the Over-25s category with me. Alexandra and JLS had mentors that supported them throughout the show and I think it showed.”

Rachel also revealed that she has had a hard time getting a record deal since leaving X Factor.

“When I left the show, there was all this talk about me being snapped up, but that didn’t happen,” Hylton said. “I even heard that I was meant to be working with John Legend, but that wasn’t true either.

“I have left the management company I was with after the show and have a new manager who is trying to get me a record deal as we speak.”

I always knew she was a feisty lady but no way would I have predicted that Ruth Lorenzo would turn her back on Simon Cowell to sign a record deal with his biggest rival.

Ruth has reportedly signed a £1 million deal with EMI/Virgin and a source told The Sun that she was blabbing the news at the launch of Jean-Christophe Novelli’s Costa del Sol restaurant at the weekend.

A guest at the bash said: “Ruth was a bit giddy with the free champagne and was telling everyone Simon was gutted she signed elsewhere. She said she wanted to sign with him because they got along so well during the X Factor. She said she would have loved to work with him.

“Ruth says he has given her lots of advice — which she made it clear she was grateful for — and also that he had given her a lot of confidence with her singing and with her career.

“But the EMI deal was just too good for her to knock back.

“By the way she was celebrating, EMI/Virgin had given her big bucks.”

Ruth may have been well advised to turn down offers from Simon’s own record company when you consider how former runners up have fared under them in the past. Just look at Andy Abraham’s recent comments on the subject and you’ll see that it is hard for graduates of X Factor to succeed once the show moves on. Hopefully EMI will market Ruth right and stand by her past the launch of next years series, managing to inject some longevity into the rock chicks musical career.

X Factor divas Ruth Lorenzo and Alexandra Burke are said to have had a massive row on the UK wide tour over the affections of a background dancer.

Ruth is reported to have accused Alex of pulling a dancer that she had her eye on, but I wonder if she’s just plain jealous of Alexandra’s success.

A source told The Sun: “Ruth claims they fell out because she pulled a dancer Alex had her eye on. She reckons Alex bullied her but the old green-eyed monster has been creeping in.

“Meanwhile Alex feels she is being singled out by Ruth and the others on tour because of her success.

“She insists she was never after any dancer – she doesn’t think that would be very cool. She thinks Ruth is just using it as a excuse to pick on her.

“But either way their friendship is well and truly over. They can barely look at each other. Both have threatened to leave unless the other is booted off the tour.”

An insider also told us that Ruth was alienating herself not just from Alex on the tour but from all the former contestants. She told Unreality TV:

“Ruth is said to be the diva of the current X Factor tour, often causing friction with her fiery Spanish temper, demands and un-called for attitude.

She spends very little time with the other acts off stage and she acts like the star of the show on stage.”

Despite being very vocal about their plans to become room-mates, Ruth Lorenzo has admitted that she and Alexandra Burke will not be sharing a flat any time soon.

The former X Factor contestants struck up a close friendship on last years series and planned to share a flat in London after the show. However with Alex committed to spending lots of time in America it seems that Ruth is going to have to find a new pal to share with.

“No, no, we are not sharing a flat. It’s not true. It was just a rumour,” Ruth told the Daily Record. “We’ve been so busy, the both of us. I want to move out of Surrey after the X Factor tour, but Alexandra is going to New York and Los Angeles to record.

“I might bring my family with me, like my niece or boyfriend to be with me for a bit. I still live with the same people from before The X Factor, but I will move to London.

“Alex and I will be close and we will be able to go out to dinners and things like that when she’s back in the UK, but she’s going to be quite busy.”

JLS’ singer Oritse Williams has moved in with his fellow X Factor singers, Alexandra Burke and Ruth Lorenzo.

Oritse has been having family problems which have prevented him from returning home, so his old XF plas have stepped in to help him out.

“Oritse has spent the past few months living with the rest of the finalists,” a source told The Sun.

“He was the bread-winner for the family, but things are very tense at home with some of his relatives. So he has not been able to go home yet and he has been staying with Ruth and Alex.”

The insider continued: “Alex invited Ruth to share her very small hotel suite and Oritse has moved in too.

“He is sleeping on the couch for now – it’s a bit of a squeeze!”
