Last night’s shocking American Idol results show saw the return of two very talented AI alumni Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud.

The pair performed a piano duet of Billy Joel’s ‘Tell Her About It’ and though Randy Jackson might say it was a little bit pitchy, we thought that the pair had such stage presence and charisma that any minor tuning issues were inconsequential.

As they finished their performance the crowd gave Scott and Matt a standing ovation and Ryan allowed Scott to plug his new debut album ‘Heartstrings’ and Matt assured fans that recording of his EP is well underway.

Former American Idol contestant Scott MacIntyre is set to release his debut album ‘Heartstrings’ on the 11th of March.

Scott made it to the final eight contestants on last year’s season of the show and is set to make his return next week when he will perform a duet with fellow AI alumni Matt Giraud. The pair will sing a song that was cut from last year’s finale, a piano duet rendition of the Billy Joel track “Tell Her About It.”

Scott’s new album will be full of 12 original songs, including upbeat tracks such as “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,” “Stars” and its of course “Heartstrings,” to emotional ballads like “Autumn Leaves” and “The Sun Still Shines.”

I think Scott may be on his way back from the bottom three and in my opinion last night’s performance was his best so far.

For the last few weeks Scott has chosen some strange and often boring songs which weren’t a great fit for his voice. On last night’s American Idol however he sang the Billy Joel classic ‘Just The Way You Are’ which was fully stripped down and really allowed his vocals to shine through.

I don’t think Scott has what it takes to win this series and he is certainly well out of Adams and Danny’s league but he had a good night last night and I hope it is enough to see him through to next weeks show.

On last night’s American Idol Scott MacIntyre sang a lesser known Michael Jackson song titled Keep The Faith.

Scott is obviously a accomplished piano player but his vocals failed to wow me. I wasn’t sure about the song choice either, in all I found the performance very, very forgettable.

Randy – “The performance was good, but it felt pretty safe..”
Kara – “What I love about you is you’re so true to yourself every week.”
Paula – “It was a lovely performance.”
Simon – “I hated the song. Because nobody knows it. But I think you’re a good singer.”

Yes you read the title right! Last night the American Idol judges twisted proceedings a little and at the end of the wild card round announced that this year, they were actually going to allow thirteen contestants through to the live finals rather than the usual twelve.

Anoop Desai, Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey and Matt Giraud will now join Jorge Nunez, Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver in next weeks first live show in the full size American Idol studio.

I think last night’s choice were all quite predictable and doubt that the judges made their decision on the spot. Each person who got through was definitely amongst the favourites in their original group and each has a massive fanbase out there in the real world, especially Anoop it would seem. Simon claimed that the decision to make the numbers up to thirteen was semi spontaneous, but I think it might just be the ‘shocker’ talked about by Fox execs at the beginning of the season.

Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nunez & Lil Rounds have become the latest three American Idol contestants to make it through to the final 12.

Scott and Lil were absolute certs based on their performances on Tuesday night’s show (click on their names to hear them sing again) and also on the fact that Lil was placed as last singer of the night, which almost seems to guarantee a spot at the top.

Jorge seemed a slightly less likely choice and though he did do a great job on Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On me’ the judges weren’t just as enthusiastic about him as they were about Lil.

Nunez, MacIntyre and Rounds join previously picked finalists Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver. The last three singers entering the final twelve will be picked in tonight’s ‘Wild Card’ round in which previous singers will get one more chance to wow the judges.

The singers that are entering that round are Von Smith, Jasmine Murray, Ricky Braddy, Megan Corkrey, Tatiana Del Toro, Matt Giraud, Jesse Langseth and Anoop Desai.

Scott Macintyre sang Bruce Hornsby’s “Mandolin Rain” on last night’s American idol show and it seemed to be a return to form for the singer.

He still didn’t seem as comfortable as he does behind a piano, but I really do think that Scott is one of this years stand out acts!

Simon Cowell, though not enamoured with his song choice, told him “he is the only one from the night that he will really remember, and he will be amazed if he doesn’t sail through to the next round.” In a repeat of their infamous exchange at the auditions, Scott and host Ryan Seacrest once again shared a hi-five.

Randy – “This wasn’t the most perfect vocal, but you had to hit the big notes you really hit them.”
Kara – “You move mountains. You’re passionate about it and you don’t make excuses.”
Paula – “You blessed us all with your gift.”
Simon – “You’re growing on me. I think there are better singers in the competition. You’re the only one I think I’ll remember.”
