Dame Shirley Bassey has hit out at TV talent shows such as The X Factor, saying that the format destroys not just the music business but the television industry too.
Mary Byrne performed Bassey’s hit song I (Who Have Nothing) on last week’s live show, however it wasn’t enough to convince the legendary Welsh singer.
Speaking to The Telegraph at the Fashion for the Brave charity event in Mayfair she said:

One of the all time greats, Dame Shirley Bassey, has been revealed as the guest for this Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Dame Shirley will be performing ‘This Time’, written by Gary Barlow. Judge, Alesha Dixon, is sure to be keen to compare notes with the veteran singer as her new single was also penned by the Take That star.

We reported earlier this week that Shirley Bassey’s granddaughter ‘Tatjana Novak-Kimsey’ has auditioned for the X Factor this year.
Tatjana performed Faith Hill’s ‘There You’ll Be’ for the X Factor judges and is hoping that when she appears on the ITV show, her grandma will be watching.
Tatjana appeared on This Is Your Life with Dame Bassey and even on stage with her in the Albert Hall when she was only sixteen months old, however the pair have had no contact for the last 16 years.
‘It would mean the world to me if she watched me sing,’ Tatjana, told The Daily Mail, ‘but I’d hate for her to be disappointed because I know I didn’t give my best performance. I panicked when the show’s researchers started asking me personal questions about Shirley before I sang, and I didn’t give 100 per cent.
