Natalie Imbruglia will perform with Irish boyband Boyzone, as they mark the first anniversary of Stephen Gately’s death.

The group will sing on the Australian version of The X Factor, where Imbruglia sits on the judging panel alongside Boyzone member Ronan Keating. She will replace Keith Duffy, who is unable to fly to Oz because of his hectic Coronation Street schedule.

‘I always fancied her from Neighbours so it’s nice to know she has taken my place,’ Keith told the News Of The World.

‘It is going to be hard not going and I will miss the rest of the boys.’

Gately died of natural causes on the 10th of October last year, while enjoying a holiday with his husband Andrew Cowles in Majorca. All four of his bandmates travelled out to Spain to bring his body home and were on hand to carry his coffin into St Laurence O’Toole church in Dublin for the his funeral.

Members of Irish group Boyzone, have revealed that they hope to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of Stephen Gately, by appearing on X Factor Australia.

The singer died of natural causes on the 10th of October last year, while enjoying a holiday with his husband Andrew Cowles in Majorca. All four of his bandmates travelled out to Spain to bring his body home and were on hand to carry his coffin into St Laurence O’Toole church in Dublin for the his funeral.

When asked how they would mark Gately’s anniversary next month, Shane Lynch admitted that the band’s priority was to spend the day together. They are hoping to meet in Australia, where Ronan Keating is acting as a judge on The X Factor and they may fit in an appearance on the show.

“Hopefully me and the boys will be in Australia,” Shane told the Herald. “We’re trying to get over there for that week. They’re planning to do a Boyzone week on the show so I don’t know if we’re going to perform.

“We’ll do anything really. As long as we’re together on the day we don’t mind.”

We imagine that the joint appearance of the sexy stars duetting on ‘No Matter What’ got the nation’s housewives excited enough to show the nation’s husbands a good time tonight. Of course the appearance of Mika will have counteracted that a little bit but we enjoyed it all the same!

Boyzone singer Ronan Keating has confirmed that the band are considering performing a tribute to the late Stephen Gately on an upcoming X Factor show.

Responding to rumours that the four remaining Boyzone singers would appear on the show, the Irish singer said that they were considering it but it would have to be “done right”.

“There’s a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see,” Keating told GMTV when asked about guesting on the reality series. “If it’s done right, and it’s the right thing, we’d absolutely love to do it. It’s just how we do it.”

Stephen Gately – who of course died in Majorca last month – had himself been a contestant on the show, and Mikey told the paper, “I want to do this for Steo and make him proud.

“I know he would have been there supporting me all the way.”

Mikey had already signed up to the show before Stephen died, and it seems the show’s bosses were concerned that following Stephen’s death, Mikey may pull out of the show.

A source close to the show’s bosses is quoted in the paper as saying, “When Stephen died bosses thought Mikey might not do the show and nobody would have blamed him.

“But they are delighted he is still doing it.”

A friend of Mikey’s also said, “Stephen smiled his way through Dancing On Ice, just like he did through his life, and Mikey wants to do this for him.”

Stephen came eighth when he was on the show dancing with Kristina Lenko.

Westlife singer Mark Feehily has said that the late Stephen Gately was incredibly brave and admitted that his coming out. helped other gay men come to terms with their own sexuality.

Feehily told The Daily Mail: “He was extremely brave. He was the first member of a boyband to come out and in hindsight it helped me and probably lots of other gay lads understand their sexuality and come out.

“There is a cliché about gays and every time a celebrity who is admired by millions of people comes out it is one more blow to the negative cliché, and people understand there is not a whole lot of difference between gay people and themselves.”

Of the funeral, he added: “In the middle of the church there was a picture of Stephen smiling and it made me think about his friendly nature and how everywhere we saw him he always had the same little smile for you.

‘Everyone was saying the same thing that day – that they couldn’t believe it is true. It is so strange, it still hasn’t sunk in.”

Many of Moir’s comments on Gately’s death enraged fans. Lines that stood out were that his death “strikes another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships”. She also insisted that his passing was “not, by any yardstick, a natural one”.

In her new article Moir said: “Obviously, a great deal of offence has been taken and I regret any affront caused. This was never my intention.

“To be the focus of such depth of feeling has been an interesting experience, but I do not complain. After all, I am not – unlike those close to Stephen Gately – mourning for the loss of a much-loved partner, son, family member and close friend. To them, I would like to say sorry if I have caused distress by the insensitive timing of the column, published so close to the funeral.”

Moir also claimed that many of her comments were taken out of proportion and added that she would have writtn the same piece about a hetrosexual couple.

She said: “This brings me back to the bile, the fury, the inflammatory hate mail and the repeated posting of my home address on the internet. To say it was a hysterical overreaction would be putting it mildly, though clearly much of it was an orchestrated campaign by pressure groups and those with agendas of their own.

“However, I accept that many people – on Twitter and elsewhere – were merely expressing their own personal and heartfelt opinions or grievances. This said, I can’t help wondering – is there a compulsion today to see bigotry and social intolerance where none exists by people who are determined to be outraged? Or was it a failure of communication on my part?”

After the untimely and devastating death of Stephen Gately, it seems that fans are eager to get Boyzone back out on the road again. Radio station U105 today suggested, that many are already suggesting possible replacements.

Though I find the whole thing a little distasteful, front runners for the role on a few Boyzone fansites, are said to be former X Factor stars Eoghan Quigg and Shayne Ward.

On the radio show one fan rang in to express her horror at the suggestion. She said:

“Personally I think it’s bad taste. Poor Stephen isn’t even cold in his grave and I just think that no one should be replacing him yet.”

Simon Cowell has admitted that he was shocked by the sudden death of Stephen Gately.

Gately was found dead in Majorca last week and was buried on Saturday.

Cowell told the Daily Star: “I was shocked about Stephen. He was a charming, polite young man not affected by fame.”

He continued: “It’s made me realise not to take life too seriously. You never know what’s round the corner.”

On Leona Lewis’ attack at a recent book signing Cowell said: “I was stunned anyone would want to attack her. We need to make sure she is protected.”
