Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he is keen to keep presenting the British version of The X Factor and is not eyeing up the free spot on the American series.

The hunky presenter had of course put his name in the hat, when Simon Cowell was looking for a star to host his US series last year but was snubbed when the music mogul picked Welsh presenter Steve Jones over him.

Dermot got the last laugh though, as Steve was dropped from the reality TV show last week but when asked in a recent interview if he would be trying for the role again, O’Leary confessed:

“I would doubt it.”

He added:

“I don’t want to talk about another person’s job because it’s not good politics and I love doing the UK show – that’s where my heart is.”

It’s lucky he feels that way, as last month Simon hinted that he would be looking for an American to front the second season of the show, confessing that he may have overdone the whole Brit thing on the first run.

Dermot also revealed that he is hoping he will be asked to return to the ITV show for the 2012 series, for which auditions will kick off this May.

it’s a bit early yet to be talking about signings and the star admitted that no contracts have yet been exchanged, but he is hopeful that he will be opening each show with a spin, when the series returns this August.

He explained: “I had a really good year last year, so of course I hope to do it, but I’m not the sort of person to tempt fate.

“If I said, ‘Yeah, I’m coming back’ but I’m not signed on the dotted line, I’d look stupid, so I’d never say that.”

Dermot O’Leary has every right to feel a little smug about the recent axing of Steve Jones from the X Factor USA, after all he went for the job himself and was snubbed by Simon Cowell in favour of the Welsh hunk.

However the soon to be married star insists that he took no pleasure in people’s constant criticism of Steve and his presenting style and after hearing that the handsome star had been axed from the hit Fox talent show, Dermot told The Daily Star:

“I don’t pay attention to the criticism Steve got.That did not bother me.”

O’Leary added:

“I’ve just come back from holiday and when you are away you realise how inconsequential people’s views are.”

Steve revealed on Twitter last week that the rumours were true and he wouldn’t be returning to The X Factor for it’s 2012 series.

However he wasn’t alone in being axed, as Simon Cowell later confirmed that both Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger would also be replaced on the panel.

It has been rumoured that Cowell is now in talks with a number of stars about joining the panel in their place and names in the frame include Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.

OMG it’s been a bloodbath over at Fox this week!

When we heard rumours yesterday that the TV network were axing three of last year’s big X Factor stars we were sure at least one of the reports would be unfounded, but this afternoon it has been confirmed that both female judges – Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul – along with host Steve Jones, have been unceremoniously dumped.

Paula confessed in a statement that while it was not her choice to go, she does understand ‘that business decisions often times override personal considerations’ and insists that she and Simon Cowell are still close pals, adding:

‘Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine and I’ve treasured my experience working on The X Factor USA.’

Steve Jones, as earlier reported confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that he has no hard feelings and had a ‘great time’ working on the show last year. We doubt he’s telling the truth though, because surely no one could like being slagged off that much!

Nicole Scherzinger had previously been keeping quiet about rumours that she had also finished on The X Factor, however today her spokesperson also confirmed the reports and issued a statement, which read:

”Nicole is leaving The X Factor USA to work on her music. Nicole spoke to Simon Cowell and he has given her his blessing.”

The brunette beauty later tweeted:

“Looking forward to an exciting year ahead and making great music and more! I’m grateful for the love you always give me.”

Simon Cowell seems upset over the decision and particularly over the departure of his former American Idol buddy Paula. He said:

”Paula in particular, is a very close friend and I expect to be working with her on another project in the near future.”

As used as we are to Simon’s huge and shocking gestures, here at unreality TV we do have to confess to being a little surprised by the axing of Abdul. While we would have been shocked had Steve been allowed to stay, and agree that Nicole was hardly an inspiring judge last year, we were sure that Paula was the Louis Walsh of America and would last on The X Factor until the whole show was cancelled by Fox.

That she didn’t is perhaps an indication of the fact that Simon doesn’t have the same influence over Fox that he does with British TV network ITV and can’t call the shots quite so decisively. This will be especially true after The X Factor failed to deliver with it’s ratings and instead of the 20 million people per episode that Cowell wanted to pull in, by the end of the first season the show had averaged just 11 million.

Steve Jones and Nicole Scherzinger will not be back on The X Factor this year.

A Fox official has confirmed that neither star will be back on the series when it kicks off later in 2012 and that bosses are now on the hunt for a new presenter to replace Jones and a judge to replace Scherzinger.

He refused to confirm or deny reports that Paula Abdul was also leaving the show, which would result in only Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid returning from the first series.

Later, Jones confirmed the news on Twitter, telling his followers that he had already been informed but claiming that he isn’t sad, as he’s had a ‘great time’ on the show. He wrote:

‘I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show.’

Whoever Steve’s replacement will be, one thing seems sure, it won’t be another British star. When Cowell first hired Steve many complained that he should have chosen a homegrown American presenter and the star himself conceded the fact recently, telling The Mirror:

‘I don’t think he did a bad job but, like America’s Got Talent there is a Brit limit on the show.’

Steve will now go on to front Let’s Dance For Sports Relief, on BBC One, alongside his ex-girlfriend and fellow Welsh star Alex Jones. The series will star celebrities Olly Murs, Ulrika Jonsson, Angelos Epithemiou, Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, Amy Childs and Harry Derbidge.

Nicole has not yet made a comment on her departure, but she won’t be sitting around on her laurels, that’s for sure. Yesterday Will.i.am revealed that he was working on some new music with the star (does he like rescuing all Simon Cowell’s castoffs?) and it has also been rumoured that due to her close relationship with Andrew Lloyd Webber, the former Pussycat Dolls star is being considered as an addition to the judging panel of his new ITV show ‘Superstar.’

Christine Bleakley is reportedly considering making a move to America, having been sounded out by Simon Cowell about presenting his next US series of The X Factor.

The former Daybreak presenter – who will next hit our screens as co-host of ITV’s Dancing On Ice – is said to be weighing up her options in The States after her partner Frank Lampard was offered a contract with David Beckham’s football team LA Galaxy.

It was recently reported that bosses at Fox TV network were planning to axe Steve Jones as host of The X Factor USA, after the public failed to warm to his Welsh charms. Insiders say Cowell is keen to get another Brit on board and that person may just be Northern Irish Christine.

A source told The Mirror: “She gets on very well with Simon and he’s always maintained at some point they will work ­together. After Dancing On Ice is done and dusted by the spring, there’s nothing keeping her in the UK if she wanted to move abroad.

“The Americans love an Irish presenter and Christine has potential to work very well in the US.”

We don’t know why anyone would think the Americans would like Christine any more than the UK public, as the reaction to her replacing Holly Willoughby on Dancing On Ice has been so negative.

Steve Jones is not having a good month!

Firs it was reported that X Factor USA bosses are planning to sack him from the show and replace him next year with a new – and most likely American host – and now it seems that he has become unlucky in love too.

The Welsh hunk – who has dated beauties such as Pamela Anderson and Halle Berry – reportedly tried it on with show judge Nicole Scherzinger at the wrap party last week but onlookers say she didn’t want a bar of it.

“He was flirting like mad and turning on his famous charm and she was giggling along with him,” a source told The Daily Star, adding:

“They were sitting next to each other and chatting.

“He was laying it on pretty thick. But no matter what moves he tried, Nicole just wasn’t interested. It was embarrassing to watch. Steve kept kissing her hand but she kept pulling away.”

The insider added:

“Say what you like about Steve, he’s persistent. But Nicole will be a tough nut to crack.”

Rumours of a romance have surrounded the beautiful pair since they both landed jobs on Simon Cowell’s latest reality TV venture, though both have always denied being anything more than friends.

Nicole recently split from her boyfriend of three years Lewis Hamilton but it seems she’s not yet ready move on….not with Jones anyway!

Steve Jones has denied rumours that he is to be sacked from The X Factor USA.

It was reported yesterday that the hunky Welsh star would not be invited back to present the 2012 series of the hit Fox talent competition, because despite his good looks and great style, viewers have just not warmed to him.

Insiders claimed that his inefficiency at handling the Rachel Crow situation last week, just strengthened bosses’ resolve to find a new host of The X Factor, when it returns next year.

However, the handsome celebrity told Access Hollywood that nothing has been decided yet and that the reports were unfounded. He insisted:

“British tabloids, thank you very much for that. Merry Christmas me!”

Steve added:

“There has been no conversation with FOX or Fremantle and there won’t be one until the New Year. If I’m back, great, if I’m not, I’ll do something else…it’s as simple as that.”

Jones’ rep also waded into the argument, reiterating his claims that there have been no unhappy calls from producers and no suggestions that he won’t be back.

He insisted:

“There have been absolutely no conversations about Steve Jones leaving ‘The X Factor’. Steve is very happy with the outcome of this season. And he looks forward to being back and discovering more talent in the New Year.”

However, just because discussions have not yet been held, does not mean that producers are not considering their options and looking around at other possible hosts.

If the American public hasn’t warmed to Steve and the critics have universally panned his performance and presenting skills on the twice weekly show, we can’t imagine why Fox would invite Jones back for a second crack at the whip.

After Cheryl Cole’s sacking we know that they have no loyalty to stars and we have to admit, compared to Ryan Seacrest on American Idol or Dermot O’Leary on The X Factor USA, Steve seems wooden and slightly amateurish each week. Surely Fox want to do better than that?

We would guess that the handling of young Rachel Crow’s breakdown was the final nail in the coffin of Steve’s American dream. Watch the video below and tell us if you’ll be sad to see him go.

Fox bosses have reportedly decided that Steve Jones will not be fronting the X Factor USA for a second season next year.

Simon Cowell was sure that the Welsh star had the looks and the style to appeal to the American public but apparently he did not have the personality and as critics widely agree that Jones has been a terrible presenter for the new talent series, executives are thought to have told Cowell that they won’t be having his boy back in 2012.

Insiders say the hunk is ‘devastated’ with the news, having settled well in LA and feeling reticent to return to the UK, where his career could very easily be affected by the snub.

A source told The Mirror:

“Steve keeps saying that living in LA is a dream come true. He loves the weather and the women, and he loves working on X Factor – it’s just a shame that the US public has not warmed to him.

“He got terrible reviews from critics when he started and things haven’t got better. There have been mistakes and he just doesn’t seem to have the knack for dealing with contestants.

“The executives at Fox have already decided not to renew his contract and so, short of a miracle happening, it is pretty much a done deal that he will not take part next season.”

We weren’t at all surprised by this news, as watching Steve deal with 13 year old Rachel Crow a few weeks ago, when she had her very dramatic breakdown on stage, made very uncomfortable TV viewing.

He looked surprised as she sank to the floor and wailed over her elimination and appeared unable to cope with the drama as it unfolded in front of him. In the end, it fell to mentor Simon Cowell to leap onto the stage and comfort the young singer, before her mother arrived on the scene.

Steve Jones has denied rumours that he is dating Nicoe, Scherzinger.

The brunette beauty recently split from her long term boyfriend Lewis Hamilton and was said to be seeking solace in the arms of the hunky Welsh star, who she works with on Simon Cowell’s American X Factor series.

Insiders had reported that the presenter and the judge had been ‘inseparable’ ever since Nicole found herself without a man in her life, however the handsome host set the record straight.

Steve told Access Hollywood Live that he and Scherzinger are just friends, explaining:

“I’m a friend, I’m there if she needs me.”

“No, I’m not helping her through it. I am single.”

We’d say Nicole has had a lucky escape. After all Lewis recently admitted that their split had come about because she wanted to settle down and have children, while he didn’t yet feel ready for that level of commitment. We somehow can’t see Steve as the settling down type either….can you?

Steve Jones reportedly stormed off the set of Piers Morgan’s chat show earlier this week.

The Welsh hunk was being interviewed on the CNN special, about his role as presenter of the new American X Factor series when he claimed that the former Britain’s Got Talent judge questioned him too deeply about his personal life, so he refused to talk anymore.

Jones took to Twitter earlier this week to write:

“For the record, I’m not ashamed to admit I stormed off Piers Morgan tonight.

“His line of questioning was highly offensive. You judge this Friday.”

What could he have asked him about? His relationship with Pamela Anderson, or Halle Berry….let’s face it there are a lot of interesting women in Jones’ past!

However, in a weird twist to the tale, Morgan then claimed that he HAD Steve thrown off the show because of his lewd conduct.

At this point, we began to smell a rat.

Something didn’t sound right with the scenario the pair were painting at all.

Steve’s spokesperson has since revealed that the whole thing was one big prank and that Piers and his client are still good friends.

He’ll need all the friends he can get as so far, Jone’s performance on The X Factor has not been received well at all. He’s more wooden than Konnie Huq on The Xtra Factor and after watching the premiere of the US series last week, we couldn’t wait to have Dermot O’Leary back on our screens last weekend!
