Torvill and Dean have an on ice chemistry that is practically palpable, however they have insisted that the secret to their success as a partnership, is that they have never been involved with one another romantically.

The former Olympic and world champion ice skating duo became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time at the 1984 Winter Olympics and have recently enjoyed a second flush of fame, as head coaches and choreographers on ITV’s Dancing On Ice.

They often look almost in love as they stare at one another, during their romantic and passionate ice skating routines, however speaking to The Mirror this weekend, Jayne Torvill has insisted that they have never indulged in any hanky panky.

She said:

“We never got married, and that is the secret.”

Christopher, 53, added:

“No ­kissing, no sleeping together, no marriage – that’s been the key to our relationship.”

However they do share a strong bond and admitted that despite the fact that Jayne is happily married to sound engineer Phil Christensen and Chris is dating Dancing On Ice judge Karen Barber, they are a bit like an old married couple.

Jayne laughed: “No doubt we’ll end up in ­retirement homes near to each other on our zimmer frames!”

Dancing On Ice continues tonight and the famous duo will take to the rink, to perform a routine with the celebrities to the hit One Direction tune, What Makes You Beautiful.

Skating legends Torvill and Dean have admitted that the problems Laura Hamilton and Colin Ratushniak experienced when trying to choreograph their own version of The Bolero, may have cost them the title on last night’s Dancing On Ice final.

The pair were seen on their rehearsal VT struggling to put together their own version of the iconic routine, with Colin admitting ‘I’m not a choreographer.’

In contrast, Sam Attwater and Brianne Delcourt’s take on The Bolero was passionate, daring and amazing, and when asked if Colin’s inexperience may have caused problems for Laura last night, Jayne Torvill admitted:

I think so. Not all skaters feel that they can choreograph and because it took them so long to get the routine together, they didn’t have the time to work on it.

However, Laura’s troubles didn’t ruin the show for Jayne. In fact she claimed that it was the most exciting series finale yet. Speaking on This Morning she said:

It was amazing, I think it was one of the best finals we’ve had. I really enjoyed it, it was exciting and everyone gave such a great performances and no one knew until the last minute who was going to win.

On Sam Attwater’s win, Christopher Dean added:

Watching the week’s rehearsal leading up to it, I could see how strong Sam was and that if he pulled it off and kept it together, I thought it could be his night. But having said that, the way the voting has been going, it could have been anybody.

Fellow mentor and coach Jayne added:

He was so on last night he couldn’t put a foot wrong at all. He skated well throughout.

The Overtones showed up on tonight’s Dancing On Ice live show.

The five piece vocal harmony group performed ‘Why Do Fools Fall In Love’ as their opening number, while Olympic legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean performance a breathtaking routine in front of them on the studio’s ice rink.

The group will also perform as each of the five remaining Dancing On Ice contestants take to the ice with their props this evening, so we can look forward to whole night of Doo-Wop inspired covers and feel good songs.

We have been informed that four of the numbers for tonight’s show have been specially arranged for the ITV show and during the results show, the band will sing their self-penned track ‘Gambling Man’.

In a statement the men said:

“This is incredibly exciting and an amazing opportunity for us. As huge fans of the show, we are really privileged to be asked to perform every song on Dancing On Ice, and massively honoured that Torvill and Dean will be skating to a track from our album.”

The Overtones’ debut album ‘Good Ol’ Fashioned Love’ has recently been certified gold and the group have previously performed on Children In Need, This Morning and supported Peter Andre on tour.

Rumer opened tonight’s Dancing On ice show with a smooth rendition of her new single, a cover of Hal David and Burt Bacharach’s ‘What The World Needs Now Is Love’.

Her dulcet tones were made even better by the fact that her rendition was accompanied by a breathtaking routine by skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

I love these romantic and emotional routines much more than the huge, fast paced group numbers often seen on the show and when watching the obvious chemistry between the pair, we just can’t imagine how they never ended up falling in love and getting married. They must be great actors, because each week Torvill and Dean look like they are truly in love!

We wonder if Karen Barber (Chris’ new girlfriend and the show’s head coach) gets jealous?

Kerry Katona thinks she is a “chav” compared to “godly” Torvill and Dean.

The reality TV star – who is being trained by the British ice-skating legends in preparation for her first ‘Dancing On Ice’ appearance on January 9 – admitted she feels “out of her depth” around the Olympic champion duo.

She said: “I’m just so nervous around them all the time and I’m always apologetic. They’re like gods and then chavtastic Kerry Katona comes along into their little world.

“I’m so out of my depth. You’re so eager to impress them, but it’s like moon-walking in front of Michael Jackson!”

The former Atomic Kitten singer – who has four kids, Molly, nine, Lilly-Sue, seven, Heidi, three, and two-year-old Max – explained while she wants to make her children proud by appearing on the ITV1 show, she and professional partner Daniel Whiston are a troublesome pair.

Kerry added to Digital Spy: “I signed up for the show for my kids. For Molly and Lilly more so, because we’ve had such a sh*t time lately. I want them to get in that audience and go, ‘Kerry Katona, yes she is my mum and we’re proud’.

“I have such a good laugh with Dan but we get told off quite a bit. If me and Dan went to school together we would have got expelled. We have so much fun but when that music comes on we just go into a zone. It’s complete escapism.”

Ice skating superstars Torvill and Dean, have claimed that their reality TV show Dancing On Ice is much more tough than it’s BBC counterpart, Strictly Come Dancing.

The show’s stars suffer so many injuries that the insurance bill alone must be astronomical and Christopher Dean told The Sun: “With ours it’s the jeopardy, because they know it’s live.”

“What you’re seeing is what they’re doing and you know they must be scared out of their wits. It’s not being in the jungle. It’s outside of their comfort zone.”

Jayne Torvill said: “It’s definitely more difficult. You can’t just get up when you fall on the floor. It can go from beautiful to ugly in a second.”

Torvill and Dean have signed a mega deal with ITV keeping them with the channel until 2011.

The Olympic winners are reportedly being paid £250,000 each for each series of Dancing On Ice, in which celebrities pair up with professional ice skaters and perform on a weekly show.

A source tells the Sunday Mirror, “It’s a testament to their popularity that TV bosses have signed them up for such a long stretch.

“They were the first couple of the skate world and 25 years into their career there’s still no one who even comes close to stealing their crown.”

I just watched Torvill and Dean perform ‘The Bolero’ on the Dancing On Ice final, and my heart is pounding in my chest.

I love to watch Torville and Dean skate at any time, but I especially look forward to this routine throughout the whole series, it is never one that gets old.

The pair look so at ease on the ice, and the whole routine, complicated as it is, looks completely effortless.

In reality I’m still not sure if my heart is pounding because of the magic of The Bolero, or because of Christopher Deans gorgeous bum in those tight skating trousers…..Yum!

After a skate off between Clare Buckfield Dec’s (from Ant and Dec) long time (ex) girlfriend) and Andrei Lipanonov (who she is rumoured to be now dating) the judges chose the accident prone Kay to go. Kay seemed to have been underscored by the judges from beginning and even in the skate-off seemed to be the better skater of the two but at the end of the day, the judges have the final say, not the public.

A brilliant group show item was put on by all the contestants, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, which was outstanding. At first it looked like a show of professionals as the skating was of the highest standard with wonderful manoeuvres being faultlessly performed by all. When the ice show hits the road we will be in for a real treat. Duncan James has already signed up for this.
Next week we will be treated to the ‘Take That’ group playing two numbers during the show. Rugby player Kyran Bracken and Melanie Lambert received the top marks of 27 out of 30 although it was felt that Lee Sharpe and Frankie Poultney and Lisa Scott-Lee with Matt Evers, were every bit as good as Kyran and Melanie.

The costumes were superb with Kay and Lisa dressed as Western Saloon girls, Lisa wearing thigh high boots and both girls boasting sexy black garters.

The skating has become more and more daring as the competition hots up with the competitors vying to make the finals. At this stage anyone could win but the judges seem to favour Kyran and Melanie.

Slipping into their skates are World Cup winning rugby star Kyran Bracken, actress Clare Buckfield, Sky News presenter Kay Burley, Magic 105.4 FM DJ Neil Fox, Boyzone star Stephen Gately, news reader Phil Gayle, heartthrob and former Blue singer Duncan James, TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson, former Steps stunner Lisa Scott-Lee, football legend Lee Sharpe and Emmerdale actress Emily Symons.

The World famous ice dancing duo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are back to coach the novices in the expert art of Dancing On Ice.

The celebrity skaters will each be paired with a professional ice skater and coached by the superstar duo to perform even more daring and exciting skating routines.

Armed with their ice skates, an array of glittering costumes and a lot of nerve they will take to the ice live each week to perform specially choreographed routines in a hope to win the public’s vote.

As well as impressing the public, our celebrity skaters will also be hoping to dazzle our panel of expert judges but each week it will be the viewers who judge the talent and make the ultimate decision on who should skate on … or off the championship.

Just under 12 million viewers tuned in to see actress Gaynor Faye crowned Dancing On Ice champion in the first series, after a nail biting final with Bonnie Langford and Stefan Booth which saw our finalists flying and performing their own version of Torvill and Dean’s legendary Bolero.

Jayne Torvill said: “It’s fantastic to be back after the success of the first series and we are looking forward to joining a new batch of celebrities on the ice.�

Chris Dean said: “We have a great mix of stars from the worlds of sport, radio and TV who have the potential to match some of the outstanding talent we saw on the first series.�

Presenter Phillip Schofield said: “Holly and I had so much fun last year presenting the show and we’re looking forward to it again. Personal highlights would be Andi Peters falling over and wiping out his partner at the same time and John Barrowman’s rhinestone Elvis jumpsuit.
