X Factor presenters Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he was terrified of Whitney Houston when she made a guest appearance on the ITV show.

O’Leary admitted that he faced a dilemma when the star’s dress strap broke, as he wasn’t sure whether she would let him help her or not.

He said on The Real Radio Breakfast Show: “You don’t want to embarrass her but I’m getting this death stare and thinking, ‘do I help her with the dress?’ and my producer’s in my ear going through the same dilemma as me, going ‘I want him to help her – but she will kill him!’”

And he joked about the star shooting daggers from her eyes when he chatted to her after her warbling.

He joked: “You know every now and again you’ll meet someone and they’ll give you that look as if to go, ‘I hate everything about you’? That’s the look I got!

“She just gave me this look as if to say, ‘I don’t know who you are, but trust me, I don’t like you’.”

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has admitted that Whitney Houston’s performance on the show was ‘pure car crash television.’

Louis watched Whitney’s performance from home in Dublin, after attending the funeral of Stephen Gately.

He told The Mirror: “I was sat at home watching Whitney’s performance and it was pure car crash television, but it was fantastic.

“When her dress came down and she tripped over it was a terrible moment. But it is live TV and she kept on going. Everyone loves it when that happens.”

On Robbie William’s much discussed performance Louis said:

“Robbie Williams took some flak but he is a brilliant performer.”

X Factor judge Dannii Minogue has admitted that she was disappointed by Whitney Houston’s comeback performance, on the show last week.

Even though the audience gave Whitney a standing ovation at the end of her song, Dannii wasn’t impressed at all.

“It is beyond crazy,” she told The News Of The World.

“The first Google alert I had the morning after was: ‘Houston! We Have A Problem! Her dress came undone and she was kind of tripping over it. And to be honest her voice just isn’t what it was.”

Dannii also questioned Whitney’s behaviour when she was interviewed by Dermot O’Leary.

She laughed: “So Dermot says, ‘Whitney how are you feeling? Obviously you’ve been mentoring the 11 acts this week, how do you feel about that?’

“Then there was this huge pause and she looked down at her feet and she’s kind of fumbling around. She’s like, ‘ah, hang on, let me get this right, I don’t want to muck this up here.’”

So I am watching the above performance that Whitney Houston gave on the Italian Version of X Factor this week and comparing it to her UK comeback last Sunday. She was definitely dressed more sensibly, the fitted white dress provided less opportunities for strap breaking and tripping style accidents for sure. It also looked more fashionable and current, a big tick for Whitney’s stylist.

The vocal performance wasn’t as strong though. It was all very panty and breathy and one could be forgiven for thinking she had just left her step aerobics class before she started. She coasted a lot over the backing singers, some lines she missed completely or just managed a word or two between warbles.

Thankfully, Whitney has a limited Italian vocabulary, only managing a quick ‘Grazie’ here and there after she sang. She made quite the fool of herself on the UK X Factor, when she babbled to Dermot O’Leary, refusing to meet his eye and appearing to all as very much ‘out of it.’ Her management had obviously ensured that interview opportunities on the Italian show were kept to a minimum. Other than ‘Grazie’ all she did was tell the audience when her Milan concert would be. Unfortunately she wasn’t actually sure if it was in April, or May.

Whitney Houston was reportedly upset after Simon Cowell gave one of her new tracks to Danyl Johnson, for last week’s X Factor.

The singer was saving ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ for her upcoming comeback tour, but Simon assigned it to teacher, Danyl.

Simon is said to have won Whitney over, by ordering her a basket of toiletries and pamper products from brand Jo Malone.

A source told The Mirror newspaper: “You’d never guess that anyone could leave Simon speechless – he usually has contestants quivering in their boots. But he has got a taste of his own medicine with Whitney.

“They had a lot of playful chemistry and got on like a house on fire.”

Whitney Houston was said to be so upset by her wardrobe malfunction during her X Factor performance, that when she was done, a member of her entourage scoped her up in giant white towels and whisked her offstage.

A show source told The Sun: “She had steam coming out of her ears.

“One of her massive entourage covered her up in these enormous towels and took her away. It was odd, as though she couldn’t bear to be seen in the dress anymore.”

If I was her, I would have been way more worried by the incoherent interview than the bad dress!

Hi everybody! I’m liveblogging X Factor tonight – let’s make this post a commentfest. Please leave your opinions in the comments area!

Oh yeah! Sunday nights just got X-ey! Or something to that effect, right Dermot?

The Whitster and the Colester are both ready to sing for the audience. Robbie’s comeback effort last week was met with mostly praise, except for the odd cynical journalist who thought he was stoned off his wee face. I wonder if Whtney’s return to telly will be as smooth?

After a reminder from Dermot that the contestants’ dreams are in our hands, they burst onstage for their ensemble performance – Whitney’s Queen Of The Night. Funny how everybody performs so much better in a huge group. This is a feature that has been hijacked slightly from American Idol – although it sounds corny on Idol, and people hate it in the States. What do you guys think? Do we like it on X Factor?

Cheryl’s Live Performance

After that, Dermot indeed refers to Cheryl Cole as a ‘national treasure’. Seriously, until she gets an OBE or something, we’ll have to just accept her as a national treasure.

This is the much-anticipated sorta-live performance of Fight For This Love that’s had everybody talking all week. She’s wearing the Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation-’inspired’ military uniforms with a troup of backing dancers. She seems a little timid coming out the doors, but gains her confidence as she goes on. She is playing to a sympathetic audience though. And guys – that dance routine was more than a little bit sexy, wasn’t it?

Now, in the words of Simon Cowell: This is really gonna pain me to say this…but that judging part was highly contrived and seriously, was Simon really gonna say he thought the song was shit? Meh. I love Cheryl, but Fight For This Love isn’t even in my sights for pop tune of the year. Though I have to admit, she must have been bricking it performing without the other members of Girls Aloud.

And now the Whitney bit…

I’m thinking it would be a great wheeze if X Factor had accidentally booked Whitney from EastEnders Though you can bet your ass that Simon will not be so cheeky as to give her a judge’s opinion after her performance!

Whitney arrives on stage wearing what looks like Alexandra’s dress from last year’s final. Cast offs and budget cuts, eh? Can’t deny she’s looking good though. I’m reliably informed that the song is called Million Dollar Bill. Oh shit, she’s just had a wardrobe malfunction!!! Well, that was more interesting than the song. It’s no Your Love Is My Love. But hey, Whitney Houston isn’t my forte people – what did you think?

Lordy, she’s a little bit strange during her conversation with Dermot. Seems more out of it than Robbie did, takes longer than Paula Abdul to string a sentence together, and can’t look the short man in the eyes. I feel a little underwhelmed, especially when Simon does a flying in the face of logic “How great is it to see Whitney Houston back on this stage?” It was great until they let her speak, Simon.

…and finally, the results!

Simon confidently proclaimed that none of his acts would be going home this week, and we believe him. The over 25′s category was the strongest last night. Olly’s safe. So are Miss Frank. Joe McElderry is safe too, which is good. Danyl Johnson will be back next week, as will Lucie Jones and Jamie Archer. Dermot reminds us that these results are in no particular order. Oooh, the tension. Stacey is back next week. Shit, Lloyd Daniels got through for another week. Some charisma lessons for Lloyd desperately needed. Scandal! John and Edward are returned by the public and Rachel Adedeji is crying her eyes out. Rachel will sing head to head with Rikki Loney, the soulless Scottish hat enthusiast.

Hilariously, Twitter went mental with people leaping up and down about John and Edward getting through. Yes, they are a joke, but what can you do? The public clearly need to be sectioned, we just need to find an asylum big enough. Rachel starts the sing-off singing With Or Without You by U2. I’d have preferred something with more sass, but whatever… she’s still inconsolable onstage after singing the song.

Rikki’s up next – Cheryl seems upset to be in the bottom two, but she couldn’t possibly keep this guy in. He sings Flying Without Wings, a Westlife song. Boring, boring, boring. Rikki hasn’t a hope of winning this competition. I can only hope that the judges put him out of our misery.

Dannii sends Rikki home. Cheryl keeps her own act – voting for Rachel to go home. Simon has the controlling vote. He could go for either of them…my heart stopped for a minute there, but he booted Rikki out! This is meant with no disrespect to Rikki, but he doesn’t have the potential to win this show. If he’d progressed, it’d have been another Leon Jackson scenario. Sorry, but it was unfair of the judges to even consider him this year.

Cheryl launches a not-really stinging attack on John and Edward, saying she can’t believe they remained in the competition when Rikki got the boot. I can’t blame her really, but sorry Scotland, you’ve already given us one Leon Jackson, we didn’t need another.

Now that‘s how a diva should sing! Whitney Houston made her UK comeback on tonight’s X Factor and I have to say, it was certainly worth the wait.

Even after her dress strap opened or snapped, Whitney carried on with greatness and she really looked like she was reveling in the moment.

I love the catchy new tune, and I loved the whole routine, however her management should stop letting her speak on live TV. She seemed more out of it than Robbie did, took longer than Paula Abdul to string a sentence together, and couldn’t look the short man in the eyes. Simon asks “How great is it to see Whitney Houston back on this stage?” It was great until they let her speak, Simon.

Next week’s X Factor will feature the UK TV comeback of the amazing Whitney Houston. The diva will be performing from her brand new album ‘I Look To You.’

Speaking of her first UK performance in 12 years, Whitney said “I have always loved my UK fans and I am thrilled to perform for them on The X Factor. I am also a fan of Simon Cowell’s and look forward to meeting him, it should be a fun night”

Also on next week’s Sunday night results show, The X Factor’s very own Cheryl Cole will perform her new single, ‘Fight For This Love.‘ Speaking of next week Cheryl said “I can’t wait to perform on the show – it will be very strange for me but exciting too”

The week’s theme will be Diva week, meaning we can look forward to some HUGE power ballads. What songs would you like to see the X Factor contestants sing?

Whitney Houston has revealed that she will appear on this year’s series of The X Factor.

The singer appear on UK TV for the first time in 12 years on the October 18 Sunday results show.

“I have always loved my UK fans and I’m thrilled to perform for them on The X Factor,” she said. “I am also a fan of Simon Cowell’s and look forward to meeting him. It should be a fun night.”
