An amazing 9,000 of you voted, but Louis only received a paltry 575 votes, which is a pathetic 6% of the vote. But since X Factor only cares about public opinion when there’s a phone vote behind it, Louis will probably return for the 2010 series.

In just the last series, the unpopular judge chose Irish act Jedward despite any obvious talent, gave a two-fingered salute to the studio audience and told a phone in viewer on the Xtra Factor “that’s why I’m a judge on this show and you’re sitting at home watching”. He also snapped a similar comment at presenter Dermot O’Leary during a live show. (Poll results at the end of this post)

Both female judges, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue topped the poll with a combined percentage of 74%. The Girls Aloud singer wins by roughly 400 votes, but actually only overtook Dannii after the show ended.

We believe that despite an early controversy when she ‘outed’ Danyl Johnson, Dannii won the affection of the public by being focussed on judging the contestants based on talent while people felt Louis and Simon were clearly manipulating the public to vote for their own acts. Dannii’s appointment to the judging panel was a controversial topic, and rumours continue to circulate that Simon Cowell is considering sacking her. He might want to rethink that…

Simon’s unexpected low

We felt that Simon’s judging this series was biased and quite poor. That seems to have been reflected by the voters in our poll, who gave him only 20% of the vote. That’s quite a blow, especially since Simon intends taking X Factor across the Atlantic and fronting the show in America.

However, devoid of his usual honest criticism, he failed to give his acts a single negative comment and seemed to be revelling in Jedward’s continued presence on the show, despite publicly complaining about the brothers. A comment from Louis Walsh on Xtra Factor even implied that Simon had been instrumental in shortlisting the Irish duo.

Perhaps that’s a key factor in Simon’s low placement in the poll? Has he overestimated his ability to influence the British public?

Results

Maybe I’m reading too much into these results – tell me in the comments – but the public are seemingly warming to the more nurturing mentors, Cheryl and Dannii. There’s a feeling that neither Simon or Louise were taking the competition seriously this year.

We know that Simon’s position on the show is secure, but what of Louis? He’s been sacked before (briefly replaced by Brian Friedman), but was brought back. Is it time to bring on a more impartial judge with a working eye for talent?

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has told Joe McElderry not to lose heart after losing the battle for Christmas number one yesterday. He insists that Joe will go on to sell one million copies of his debut single ‘The Climb’ and more albums than RATM could ever hope for.

Louis told The Sun: “You always have novelty records at No1 for Christmas and Killing In The Name is nothing but that. Joe has nothing to worry about at all.

“With all the fuss about Rage Against The Machine, people might fail to realise that Joe has still sold 450,000 records, which is phenomenal. He only lost by a tiny 50,000 sales.

“He will sell a million singles. I think The Climb will be one of the biggest-selling singles of next year. Besides, it’s all about having a career – look at the albums chart. Alexandra Burke, JLS and Leona Lewis have all come from X Factor and sold millions.”

Walsh added: “Joe will go on to sell a lot more albums than Rage ever have done. He’s going to have a huge career. Missing out on No1 this week will not make a difference to his life.

“Rage Against The Machine couldn’t fill Wembley now. I think Joe will.”

X Factor stars John and Edward Grimes, are reportedly being considered for roles in the new Baywatch movie.

America’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff is said to have been so impressed by the boys on the ITV show, that he thinks they could also sing his new theme tune.

David told The Sun: “I loved Jedward. I’d definitely give them a starring role

“Can you imagine them running around the beach and saving people in the sea? They’d be hilarious.

“Hair and make-up staff would have to make sure their quiffs stayed in place!”

On the boys joining him on the theme tune, David laughed:

“It would be so much fun. Jedward and The Hoff teaming up, could it get any better? I bet we could get a No1.”

The Hoff also predicted that Jedward will take America by storm saying:

“We love acts like this. They’ll be stars I’m sure, whether in music, TV, movies – or all three.

“You want to find the SUSAN BOYLE who’s going to be a superstar, but you also want to find acts that are a lot of fun and make you laugh.

“I’ve a feeling Jedward are going to be well known in the next year.”

OK, so we’re a bit confused. A few days ago we heard that rock band Rage Against The Machine had vowed to donate all of the profits from their single ‘Killing In The Name Of’ to charity. In fact we gathered from many of the comments left on our blog, that this promise was a big reason why many fans downloaded the single this week.

All week the band have been backed by a huge Facebook campaign in a bid to help push their single ‘Killing In The Name Of’ to the number one spot, therefore beating Joe McElderry’s ‘The Climb.’

As it was announced that Rage had scored their number one tonight, singer Zack de la Rocha told Radio One that the band would be donating ‘part of the singles profits’ to Shelter.

Reports are circulating that X Factor singer Lucie Jones, may be about to sign a management contract with show judge, Louis Walsh.

Lucie was spotted lunching with Louis in Dublin yesterday, sparking rumours that the Westlife manager may be about to take her under his wing.

“Lucie hinted that she and Louis were meeting up for a chat, so she could get some career advice from him,” a source close to the singer told The Hearld.

“He was in Brown Thomas doing some Christmas shopping when she was in town, so she said she was going to join him for a coffee before heading off to the Miley Cyrus concert at the O2.

“Obviously, Dannii was Lucie’s mentor on the show, but Louis would have known all the contestants as well and would want to help them out if he could,” they added.

Former X Factor contestants John and Edward Grimes, have thrown their weight behind Rage Against The Machine’s battle for Christmas number one.

Jedward have admitted that they think the chart battle is ‘cool’ and that ‘competition is a good thing.’

“Every X Factor winner knows they will be No 1, but we think the competition is a good thing,” the pair told the Sunday Mercury.

“It is cool that someone else hasn’t just sat back and let it happen.

“We think it is cool there is competition.”

X Factor winner Joe McElderry has said that visiting sick children and British soldiers this week, has made him realise that his battle to reach number one in the charts, isn’t that important.

During his promotional tour this week Joe has met soldiers home from Afghanistan and poorly children in Great Ormond Street hospital. He claims that these visits have helped him out his chart battle with Rage Against The Machine into perspective.

He told The Daily Star:

“This week I have been faced with soldiers who have had their limbs blown off and children who are dying or seriously ill in hospital.

“That to me is so much more important than getting to No 1. You just don’t know how lucky you are. I was at Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday and it opened my eyes.”

X Factor winner Joe McElderry has received a dinner invitation from George Michael.

Joe first met George when the pair performed a duet on last week’s X factor final.

Michael reportedly sent a handwritten note to McElderry, inviting him, his mum, his mentor Cheryl Cole and her husband Ashley for a meal.

A source told The Daily Mirror: “He’s given Joe his address and asked him to RSVP when he gets a spare second.

“Joe’s mum is a massive George fan and can’t believe it. She says she will be too excited to speak on the night.”

In an interview yesterday, Joe revealed that he had received a call from a Disney executive in Hollywood, hoping to set up a meeting in the near future.

The 18 year old told The Sun:

“I couldn’t believe it and thought it was a wind up. But they genuinely want to meet me. Someone from Disney is setting up a casting audition.”
