X Factor – Battle Of The Stars, Celebrities Revealed

The Sun reports

X FACTOR Battle Of The Stars celebs have spoken for the first time about singing their hearts out in the new show.

As revealed by The Sun’s TV Biz, the line-up includes ex-EastEnder Lucy Benjamin, Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee, glamour girl Michelle Marsh, Radio One DJ Chris Moyles and Gillian McKeith from You Are What You Eat.

Page Three girl Michelle, 23, said: “It’s different to my normal job, I get to wear clothes. And hopefully I will show off another couple of talents. But singing live is scary.”

Fiery Scot Gillian promises to give judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne a rough ride.

She said: “If I get negative comments from the judges I will come after them with an enema tube and wash out their bad attitude.

“What actually scares me most is the thought of potentially being exposed to Louis Walsh’s poo and accompanying smell.”

Paul, 68, and wife Debbie, 48, say their preparation for the show as a duet has been far from magical. Paul laughed: “My karaoke is Danny Boy and Debbie always gets out of it by hiding in the toilets!”

Lucy, 35, who played Lisa Fowler in the soap, said: “I’m absolutely terrified about singing live on TV. It makes me sick every time I think about it.”

Chris, 32, commented: “I have been upsetting my neighbours by singing loudly in my flat in preparation for upsetting millions by singing badly on TV.”

The remaining four acts will be named before the show runs live on ITV1 nightly from May 29 to June 5. There will be three categories 16-24s, over 25s and groups mentored by the three judges.

Biography Of Gillian McKeith

Wikipedia Reports

Gillian McKeith (born Perth, Scotland in 1959) is a highly controversial author and television presenter who often uses the letters “Dr” in front of her name. She has written a number of books, including You Are What You Eat, Dr Gillian McKeith’s Living Food for Health and The Miracle Superfood: Wild Blue-Green Algae. Her television work includes Channel 4’s You Are What You Eat, Granada Television’s Dr Gillian McKeith’s Feel Fab Forever and a number of slots on shows such as ITV’s This Morning and BBC1’s Good Morning. She recently helped Scottish heavy-weight singer, Michelle McManus lose seven stone (44kg).

She suffers from scoliosis, and grows her hair long to hide the condition.

Philosophy

Her general philosophy is based on advice to exercise more, and to reduce processed and high-calorie foods in favour of organic fruits and vegetables. She is a proponent of colonic irrigation and of her proprietary ‘living food’ supplements, said to aid digestion by providing enzymes. She also claims that yeast is harmful and that the colours of foods are nutritionally significant.

The basis of some of her alternative medical procedures (for instance, diagnosis of nutritional deficiency by feces and tongue inspection) has been strongly disputed as inaccurate or untrue by some members of the scientific community. Critics have included John Garrow, Emeritus Professor of Human Nutrition, University of London; GP and journalist Dr Ben Goldacre (in The Guardian’s Bad Science column); Edzard Ernst, University of Exeter professor of complementary medicine; and Amanda Wynne of the British Dietetic Association (in The Sun). See Quackery.
[edit]

Education

McKeith originally attended Edinburgh University and gained a degree in languages and business. Later she moved to America, where she worked in marketing and international business. McKeith originally claimed, both on her website and in her book Dr Gillian McKeith’s Living Food for Health, to have a PhD from the American College of Nutrition (by implication, the Florida-based institution of that name). This claim has since been amended to say that she received a Master’s degree and PhD from the American Holistic College of Nutrition, Alabama — now the Clayton College of Natural Health — which offers correspondence courses. The Clayton College of Natural Health states that it is accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board. However, these are not recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, which means “accreditation” by them is meaningless.

McKeith’s PR office indicate that her PhD Thesis has been published under the title “Blue Green Algae” by Keats publishing; however, the aforementioned volume is only around 60 pages in length, which would be very short for a PhD thesis. However, it is the fact that the PhD thesis is from an unaccredited institution, rather than its length, which makes it controversial and hence her use of the title “Doctor” is also controversial.
[edit]

Professional Affiliations

McKeith says she is a member of the American Association of Nutritional Consultants (AANC). This organisation has been criticised by Quackwatch for selling membership certificates to unqualified individuals. In 2004, Dr Ben Goldacre revealed that upon payment of $60 he obtained a certificate showing his dead cat was a member. It is claimed by Quackwatch that hamsters and poodles are members too.
[edit]

Research

McKeith claims to have conducted a number of studies. She claims she has studied effects of blue-green algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) on childhood learning disabilities and behavioural problems (Nebraska, USA; and El Salvador school system) and studied effects of stressors on ageing and immunity with Dr Robert Pollack (MD), Temple University Medical School (Philadelphia, USA). She markets a product containing this algae called Dr Gillian McKeith’s Liquid Nutrient Shot.

Her work has not appeared in peer-reviewed publications, and is not considered by scientists to be of any academic value. [2]

Quotes

“All molecules have an electrical charge and a vibrational energy. Therefore, all foods, which are made up of molecules, contain these vibrational charges. The colours of foods represent vibrational energies [...] foods which are orange in colour [...] have similar vibrational energies and even similar nutrient makeup.”

Note that many molecules don’t have overall charge. While it could be argued that McKeith is referring to subatomic charges distributed within molecules, the statement as it stands gives a false impression, because usually references to charged molecules imply ions, which many molecules (and therefore food components) are not.

Secondly, visible colours are not generally a function of molecular vibrations: these usually interact with electromagnetic radiation in the infra red region. It’s probable “vibrational” is used here in some generic sense, divorced from chemists’ normal usage, deriving from a vague picture of quantum mechanics. Nonetheless, the terminology is misleading for an apparently scientific statement.

Third, it’s false to suggest on the strength of this, or any other scientific theory, that similarly coloured foods contain similar “nutrient makeup”. All it shows is that their distribution of electron energy levels (not vibrational levels) leads to a similar retinal response.

Biography of Lucy Benjamin

Wikipedia reports

Lucy Benjamin (born 25 June 1970) is a British actress.

Born Lucy Jane Baker in Reading, Berkshire, England, she took the stage name of Benjamin after her brother. Her first acting role was as a child actor in Doctor Who in 1983. In 1989 she starred in the children’s television programme Press Gang, where she played ‘Julie Craig’ until 1993. In 1995 she appeared in the Rik Mayall comedy Bottom. However she is probably best known for her role as Lisa Fowler in the BBC soap opera EastEnders which she played from 1998-2003.

During her time on EastEnders she was involved in one of the soap’s most renown and highly anticipated storylines, known as Who shot Phil? (2001). The storyline centred around the shooting of her on-screen lover Phil Mitchell and who, out of the many potential candidates, actually performed the dastardly deed. Several suspects ermerged and the audience was kept in the dark as to who the actual murderer was for many weeks. Lucy’s character was eventually unveiled as the shooter. However, despite her heavy involvement in the memorable plot, Lucy was asked to leave the soap in 2002 as producers felt her character had run its course and there was no story options left for her at present. She was asked back for a short period in 2003 however, to help with the oncoming exit of Steve McFadden, who was taking a hiatus from the hit soap.

Lucy’s offscreen relationship with EastEnders co-star Steve McFadden was much publicised in the British tabloid press during her time on the show. The relationship allegedly ended after McFadden was caught cheating on her with an ex-lover and the pair split in 2003.

Since leaving Eastenders Lucy has appeared in the BBC television programme ‘The Afternoon Play’, and the BBC hospital drama Casualty.

In April 2006 it was reported in The Daily Mirror that Lucy is in talks with EastEnders about reprising the role of Lisa Fowler, but it has yet to be confirmed by the BBC.

Biography of Chris Moyles

Wikipedia Reports

Pre-Radio 1

Before settling in at Radio 1, Chris has had presenting experience at various local radio stations in the UK, including Radio Aire, The Pulse of West Yorkshire, Chiltern Radio, Horizon Radio and Capital FM. Before then, he also managed a short stint at Radio Luxembourg, being known as presenter Chris Holmes.

Without co-presenters alongside in his shows, Chris’s unique style was more obviously seen, and was arguably more creative than in his current Radio 1 role. His usual mocking of callers and over-the-top phone-cutting-off sound effects were still heavily used.

Features in his shows included ‘Throwing CDs at the studio clock’, ‘The ABC Game’ and ‘True or False’. Regular characters such as ‘Agony Kid’ (a young child creating spoofs of an Agony Aunt column) and a high-pitched ‘Little Fella’ also made appearances on the shows. Over the years on local radio, Chris has had production talents such as Daryl Denham lending a hand in producing the goods before each show was put on air.

Already known as ‘The Saviour’ to his listeners, ‘The Early Evening Bit’, ‘The Late Bit’, or just the ‘xxx bit’, in general, were common names used for his shows on the various stations.
[edit]

Radio 1

In 1997 Moyles was voted one of the Faces for ‘97 by Sky Magazine. He later joined Radio 1 on July 28, 1997. Within months, in May 1998, his work was recognised by the award of the Silver Sony Awards DJ of the Year, and within the year he was promoted to a Saturday mid-morning slot.

His next promotion came in October 1998 when he took control of the afternoon show. Moyles took with him the show’s writer and his sidekick David “Comedy Dave” Vitty. His show also included regular guests such as impressionist Jon Culshaw. He and his team soon attracted considerable attention and notoriety.

Moyles’ style of delivery involves fast speech punctuated with long pauses.

After five years on drive time, on January 5, 2004, Moyles started presenting Radio 1’s flagship programme The Breakfast Show, switching places with Sara Cox. He had been appointed to increase the ratings for the show and did so, putting on an extra 700,000 listeners to the audience in the first quarter of 2004. After a successful first year, Moyles was awarded ‘DJ of the Year’ by readers of The Sun.

By 2005 Chris Moyles and his team had succeeded in vastly increasing the morning audience, as his programme’s audience had swelled to 6.5 million. This was coupled with an increase in the overall Radio 1 listenership. With 895,000 listeners in London in the third quarter of 2005, he succeeded in overtaking Johnny Vaughan to take the prized position of the capital’s most listened to youth breakfast show. Along with his short-lived campaign “Say No to Wogan”, Chris’ listener count is increasing each week. This lead to him winning a gold Sony Radio Award in 2006 for best entertainment show.

Features

Regular competitions he has hosted have been Viaduct, which was based on a Two Ronnies sketch (itself based on Mastermind, with a specialist subject of “answering the question before the last”), and more recently Car Park Catchphrase, featuring voice samples from the Ulster comedian Roy Walker. This was replaced in January 2006 with a spoof on the quiz Blockbusters called Beep Beep Busters. His Saturday morning shows often contained slightly bizarre competitions, including one where Chris and Dave made predictions on how long people’s marriages would last (entitled May Divorce Be With You).

Numerous other comedy features have been included in Moyles’ shows. These include Girls Going to Football, in which Comedy Dave predicts the scores of football matches to which female listeners are going; Rob DJ’s Monday Night Pub Quiz, where the team answers a selection of questions from a local pub quiz; Frog Or Dog, where listeners had to do an impression of either a frog or a dog; Guess Who, a Twenty Questions-style game, in which the team members try to guess the name of a celebrity spott

Biography Of Debbie McGee

Wikipedia Reports

Debbie McGee (b. October 31, 1958) is the wife (and assistant) of magician Paul Daniels. She was born in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, and trained at the Royal Ballet School. Following her ballet training, McGee joined Dougie Squires’ Second Generation troupe as a dancer.

McGee met Paul Daniels whilst working with him during his summer show in Great Yarmouth in 1979. They married in 1988, and she has since worked with him as his assistant both on television and stage. In recent years, McGee has performed some magic herself.

In addition to her TV work, McGee has also had a very small part in the 1981 film The French Lieutenant’s Woman, where she played a prostitute.

In 2000 McGee set up Ballet Imaginaire to produce ballet shows and tour them around the country, but ticket sales were reportedly poor.

In October 2004, she appeared on The Farm, a Channel 5 version of the RTE show Celebrity Farm.

Biography of Paul Daniels

Wikipedia Reports

Paul Daniels (born 6 April 1938 in South Bank, Middlesbrough) is a television magician in the United Kingdom.

He presented The Paul Daniels Magic Show on the BBC from 1979 until 1994. His catchphrase was “You’ll like it, not a lot, but you’ll like it.” Paul also hosted other television shows from the 1980s to the 1990s, such as the quiz shows Odd One Out, Every Second Counts and Wipeout. The Paul Daniels Easter Magic Show won the Golden Rose of Montreux Award at the International TV Festival in Switzerland in 1985.

Daniels starred in his own show, It’s Magic, at the Prince of Wales Theatre from December 10, 1980 until February 6, 1982. At that time, the show became one of the longest-running magic shows ever staged in London.

He has since retired from presenting magic shows on TV, but continues to make guest appearances on other programmes. Paul still tours with his magic show, and recently presented a show about the ‘Magic of Max Malini’.

Paul was awarded the prestigious ‘Magician of the Year’ Award by the Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts in 1983, and was the first magician from outside the US to receive it.

He married his long-time assistant Debbie McGee in 1988.

He was humiliated by Chris Morris in the 1997 media spoof TV series, Brass Eye, in a segment where he was persuaded to appeal to viewers to help a fictional East German elephant that had got its trunk stuck up its anus. This was the same year that he threatened to leave the UK if New Labour were elected — a threat he did not, in the event, carry out.

In 2004, he appeared in the Channel 5 reality TV show, The Farm.

He also trained and worked as an accountant before his career took off. He served in 1st Battalion, The Green Howards during his National Service and was posted to the British garrison in Hong Kong.
