James McCullagh Apprentice 2012 blog – Jade Nash, Jane McEvoy and Gabrielle Omar stood out as the best candiadates

The Apprentice started with the typically brilliant lines and the same frosty reception from Lord Sugar. But what impressed me about this episode was the lack of mistakes.

We did have Jenna pipe up with the fact that she had a dream, and in that dream a friend told her to call the team ‘Sterling’. Ok Jenna…

Nick the candidate, not Nick Hewer, took control of the boys on the first episode. And what a great job he did. They produced a London themed product aimed at tourists, which equals a central London JACKPOT. They did have some difficulties printing the damn things though and that seems like something I would have been really bad at too. I always shied away from the practical things like that.

Gabrielle took charge of the girls team, and what a ‘Sterling’ job she did too. Creating a great product with the help of Jade – one that would sell anywhere, not just the streets of London.

So well done to both Project Managers- top notch, and two candidates who I think could go far.

I think in general- all of the boys team performed really well. We didn’t see the likes of Ricky The Wrestler, Tom or Adam make many sales but if we consider they turned-over around a thousand pounds in one day- they weren’t back at the apprentice house with their feet up, they were selling, and doing a good job too. So well done to all the unsung heroes in Team Phoenix.

Jade, Jane and Gabrielle stood out to me as the best of the female candidates. Cautious Katie will learn from the first week and I expect to see her more full of energy and ideas next week.

As for Bilyana- it could have been so different. She did lead the girls around London on a wild goose chase, she did use some of Mahammed’s sales tactics and she was a bit annoying- but if she could have shut up in the boardroom she would have been ok. Sometimes the key to The Apprentice is to say less, less is more. I learnt that the hard way in the final- and so did Bilyana.

I reckon Lord Sugar made a good call- Katie better step up next week or she will go.

The two PM’s are the shining stars of this week’s episode for me- well done to Gabrielle and Nick- keep it up.
