The Apprentice: Paul Callaghan
Paul Callaghan
Age: 27
Qualifications: BSc Engineering Physics
Career: Ex-Army Lieutenant
Home town: Southampton
Profile: Graduating from the rigorous Sandhurst Royal Military Academy which encompassed command leadership and management training, he became HR and Resource Manager for the Army and was in charge of recruiting potential officers into the Royal Artillery. He was posted to Iraq as Infantry Commander and spent six months serving in Basra. His time in the military has taught him cool, calm and collected leadership and he has no time for dilly-dallying. First job was selling jumpers on his parents market stall. A real smooth player his hobbies include sky diving, polo, skiing and yachting and his biggest fear is being eaten by a shark.
He says: “My lack of commercial experience might be a weakness but my leadership and organisational qualities are definite strengths.”

This bio is utter rubbish. All army officers are graduates of Sandhurst, be they regulars, territorials or UOTC halfwits. A Y.O. (young officer) does not exit Sandhurst straight into a “HR management” position and certainly not into a “officer recruitment” position - that is usually dealt with officers ranking major or above, at least 8 years service behind them. I was a fast tracker in the nineties and trust me, there is nothing about this idiot’s supposed career that rings true.
I suspect if they dig deep enough he’ll have done nothing in the army and a holiday in Bahrain is the closest he’s ever been to Iraq. Artillery recruiter and infantry commander- **expletive deleted**.
I’m not sure why I detect a little bitterness in the comment by Epocalypse but being a “fast tracker in the nineties” we must of course bow to his superior knowledge.
However I can in fact vouch for the fact, having served alongside Paul that what he says in his bio is, broadly speaking correct.
Just a few points though- “UOTC halfwits” most certainly do not graduate from Sandhurst and furthermore it is perfectly normal for Lt’s and Captains to take over a recruitment position at this stage of their career, rather than a Major. This is true of the Regiment in which he served at least.
I think possibly what is more interesting is that though Paul most certainly did spend 6 months in Iraq post-war, unfortunately might not have been in post there for quite as long as mentioned above due to a few errors of judgement and minor indiscretions. Perhaps this would explain the speedy move to Officer Recruitment back in London, where things are (only slightly) safer.
[...] Paul Callaghan has become the latest person to leave BBC’s reality show, The Apprentice. What makes it worse is that he truly believes that he should not have been the one to go and that he was only sent home because of his relationship with fellow contender, Katie Hopkins. [...]
