The Apprentice: Wednesday 13th May 2009

apprentice2009

9.57: Mona reaches the end of the pier! I have hoped for weeks that she would be fired but in fairness, tonight should have been Debra’s last. The woman can’t lead a team, can’t even design a poster or finish a leaflet. On second thoughts I would have liked a shock triple eviction. Not a one of those no hopers can hope to work for SAS long term.

9.55: SAS says Mona is someone who sits in the background and says what people want to hear, he brands James a ducker and diver who plays a clever game and he thinks Debra is too loud, too bossy and someone who kills creativity.

9.51: Debra takes James and Mona back into the boardroom. James was ineffective in Margate, Mona didn’t like the gay community and Debra is a lazy liar. Not a great bunch really.

9.49: Debra’s lies are revealed and Margaret admits that the branding experts were furious that Debra span them a story about the blank space on her leaflet. Turns out it wasn’t for local advertisers at all, Debra just dropped the ball and failed to finish one of her key promotional tools.

9.46: James turns on Mona, saying that she was uncomfortable in the Gay bar and in conducting market research. Mona suggests it was because she wasn’t behind the idea but James seems to imply that she was less than comfortable with the gay community as a whole.

9.44 Empire enter the boardroom and the cat fight begins. Attention is turned to the posters and leaflets, both seemed to be Debra’s responsibility. Could she be in for a sacking?

9.41: SAS turns his attention to Empire’s crap posters and leaflets. James and Mona are picked out as the two least helpful candidates on the team.

Margaret and Nick reveal the scores. Residents and branding experts gave Ignite’s Empire’s Gay Friendly campaign 4/10 whilst Ignite scored 7/10 with both groups.

9.40: SAS picks up on Ignites child friendly campaign that lacks any images of kids….bit of an oversight there.

9.35: The teams present to local residents. Kate seems to impress with her pitch but the residents are less than impressed with the leaflet and think that the campaign is too safe. Ignite apparently don’t push enough boundaries. Howard takes the stand and once again the residents like his pitch but struggle with his visual materials. SAS will have something to say on that matter no doubt.

9.30: Kate presents their ‘See Margate Through The Eyes Of Children’ campaign. She’s actually very competent at putting their ideas across and seems to cover all the bases. Howard’s up next, his presentation seems long winded and their tagline fails to get to the point. One of the experts worries that there are too many words on the poster and that it fails to get the message across in a concise manner. The second expert looks less than impressed with Debra and Mona’s ‘work in progress’ leaflet.

9.27: Nick looks bemused that Debra has left a glaring blank space on her promotional leaflet but time is up, the deadline is passed and it’s off to sell their locations to experts and residents alike.

9.25: Lorraine kicks off again! She wants Yasmina to change the poster but the shouting isn’t proving to be very persuasive. She’s acting like a bit of a psychopath not a bit of wonder that Yasmina looks terrified.

9.23: James buys the models an ice cream then tells them not to lick them too suggestively….”after all we’re not making a porno!” Talk about taking the fun out of food.

9.19: The ‘gay’ models have a hard time looking like they are dancing whilst standing still and the other team have a hard time photographing the beauty of Margate beach through thick fog. Ben has certainly got that finger framing down to a ‘t’ though.

9.15: Mona meets her first ever transvestite in Margate’s one and only (and very empty) gay bar. I have rarely seen someone look so uncomfortable! Stop looking at his boobs!!!!

9.13: Yasmina and Kate ogle fit men under the guise of hiring someone for their family friendly advertising campaign. I wonder how Phillip will feel when he sees his girl blushing over another mans torso.

9.11: In a bid to gauge local support for the pink pound, Mona comes out with the cracker ‘those people seem to have a lot of money’. I’m sure ‘the gays’ will be pleased that she thinks they are so affluent!

9.10: Nick Hewer looms bemused as Howard casts two straight models as his gay poster boys.

9.08: Mona looks less than tickled pink when her group decide to rebrand Margate as a gay destination. Maybe that’s what led to this situation then. It won’t help when she finds out that the other team have used her idea and decided to pitch Margate to the family market.

9.06: Teams choose Debra and Yasmina as their leaders.

9.00: Sir Alan Sugar (who shall from now on be known as SAS) calls the Apprentice candidates to the O2 Arena. He gives them a bit of a pep talk about the rebranding of the Millennium Dome to the O2 Arena and then sends them packing to Margate to see if they can do a similar job on the sleepy seaside town.
