Young Apprentice Preview: New name, same great show!

When Junior Apprentice aired last year we thought it was a kind of a cop out and without the bitchiness of the candidates and the brutal honesty of (now Lord) Alan Sugar, it would be a bit of a washout.

But we hold our hands up and admit…we were wrong. What amazed us most was the fact that some (not all but definitely some) of the young hopefuls had better business heads and certainly more drive and dedication than their adult counterparts.

The show returns this evening at 9PM on BBC One, with a new bunch of faces, who all seem to be boasting about the fact that they got a million A stars in their GCSEs and made thousands of pounds from some whiz-kid online venture. Some of them seem every bit as big-headed and annoying as the fully grown candidates who went before them, but somehow we just can’t bring ourselves to be harsh about a teenager…..Unless of course they’re Jedward.

In true Apprentice style, it becomes clear that you should probably never boast about your achievements too loudly, as soon into the first episode, the so called super intelligent girls team make it clear that they struggle with basic maths and completely mess up their order and fruit quantity as part of their ice cream making task..

Oxfordshire teen Harry Maxwell sets himself up for a fall, with a spectacular bit of chest beating and declares:

“In terms of my intellect, self-motivation, confidence, and business instinct for my age, I am unrivalled.”

Nice that he’s feeling modest. The boastful youngster went on:

“I have a pure entrepreneurial gift waiting to be unleashed and harnessed.”

We fully expect Lord Alan to take him down a peg or two by the time the series is over.

Tune into Young Apprentice tonight, at 9PM on BBC One and check back for our liveblog on the homepage!
