Dusty Springfield Wins The One And Only

So I tuned in to the BBC’s The One And Only a little late in the series. In fact tonight’s live final was the first of the shows I have managed to watch. I kept intending to watch it week after week, but I was never a big Stars In Their Eyes fan, so I wasn’t holding out great hope for this latest BBC effort.
I was pleasantly surprised by Moni’s rendition of Lionel Richie’s All Night Long, in fact after watching that performance I was sure he would win.
Katy Setterfield sang well, but since I’m not really sure who Dusty Springfield is/was much of the effect of her act was lost on me.
She won in the end, not just the show but also a three month performing contract in Las Vegas. But what I want to know is will the people of America have any idea who Dusty Springfield is?
I bet I get hundreds of emails from all you Dusty fans out there now, telling me of her world wide success and domination……

Sorry – but if you don’t know who someone as basic to the history of popular music as Dusty Springfield is – then perhaps you are not really up to commenting.
The key to these performances is – are they like the original artists -if you aren’t familiar with them – how can you evaluate their effectiveness? – You can’t.
Dusty Springfield is only the greatest popular singer to come out of the UK. I’m an American and even I know that. Katy has given splendid performanes and deserved to win. Did you see her Superfans Simon Bell and Carole Gibson crying as she nailed You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me? Simon, who was her friend and backup singer, Carole who has been a fan since the 1960s. That should tell you a lot. Bless Dusty and bless Katy for helping to keep her music alive and coverting a whole new generation of fans.
Well thankfully the rest of the UK and beyond know who Dusty was and clearly saw how well Katy performed as Dusty. Katy was stunning last night, as the audience, the coaches, the Superfans and the viewing public all agreed.
GO KATY!!!
Im amazed you dont know who dusty springfield is/was. Where have you been? Mars? Ye gads woman, go and find out about her. Everybody needs a bit of Dusty in their life. Even you.
Damn I can’t believe anyone would leave a blog not knowing something of Dusty Springfield and the Springfields one of Britains best loved artists, a great singer and a legend of pop in her time.
Katy have you spent your life in a cupboard?
For me the only winner from week one was this woman who is one of the best impersonators of an artist, I’ve seen for a long time. Good luck to her.
I do gather that she has been impersonating Dusty for awhile and did make a living a singing. So all the years of hard work have paid off.
I hope she gets a recording deal out of it. After all a few contestants of reality tv programmes have been successful, in getting a single album deal; from the opposing channel ITV – when Stars in their eyes was on TV.
Unlike the ITV programme the competitors there only performed the one song, the ONE and ONLY expected a different song each week plus one song which was done in a group not particularly the original artists song and they had to try and carry it off in the style of who they were representing.
Moni was also good as Lionel Richie and in my view he too deserves success in the wake of the programme.
