Most of the lineup for next year’s coaching panel on The Voice UK has finally been confirmed.
After the previous series ended in June of this year, The Script star Danny O’Donoghue revealed that he was stepping down after mentoring for two years on the BBC show. He was soon followed by ‘Domino’ hitmaker Jessie J who wants to turn her attention back to her own music career, her new album and world tour.
This morning the Beeb have confirmed Jessie’s replacement, as well as revealing that Will.i.am and Tom Jones will both be returning for a third run in their big red chairs.
The legendary Welsh singer and the US star will be joined by Australian pop songstress Kylie Minogue and it sounds like she’s very excited about her new role.
Minogue will start work on the show when auditions kick off in January and she said:
“I’m very excited to become a Coach on The Voice. I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series. The search for new talent is such an important aspect of the music industry and The Voice gives us all a part to play in that. Will I be competitive? Probably more than even I imagine! Watch this space!”
She also tweeted:
“#LOVERS I’m excited to announce that I’ll be coaching on @BBCTheVoiceUK next season!”
Will.i.am had previously admitted that he would find it hard to return to the show without Danny and Jessie and apparently he was considering offers from American Idol bosses until very recently.
However, he’s decided that for now, his heart lies in the UK and stated:
“While I will miss Danny and Jessie, I’m excited to be returning for Season 3 and to work with Kylie and Tom. Together we will mix it up and bring new energy and ideas to the show.”
Tom Jones had also cast doubt on his comeback during series two, however it seems he is keen to return and search for the new Leanne Mitchell or Mike Ward and said:
“I’m really looking forward to series 3 of The Voice and although I’ll miss Jessie and Danny, Kylie and the fourth coach will be a welcome addition to the line-up.”
Mark Linsey, Controller Entertainment Commissioning, BBC, said: “Kylie is a hugely respected figure within the world of music and will be a fantastic addition to The Voice UK. She is a true pop icon and her longevity in the industry is testament to her creative and musical ability.”
Moira Ross, Head of Entertainment for Wall to Wall, said: “In terms of pop royalty, it really doesn’t get much better than Kylie. With more than two decades of global success under her belt, I know she’ll bring something truly special to the coaching line-up.”
Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, said: “I knew the line-up wouldn’t disappoint! To secure the princess of pop Kylie and announce the return of will.i.am and Sir Tom is a really great moment for the show, bring on The Voice Series three, back on BBC One in January 2014!”
