The Voice 2012: Leanne Mitchell’s ‘Run To You’ reaches only 27 in the singles chart

Leanne Mitchell will be disappointed to discover that her debut single is not exactly taking the charts by fire.

The former holiday camp entertainer won The Voice last Saturday night and at midnight, released her debut single to the nation. The track she chose, was her favourite song of the series – Whitney Houston’s ‘Run To You’ – but in Tuesday’s mid week chart, it was revealed that the single had climbed to only number 27.

Only 6,527 had purchased Leanne’s effort, in comparison to a massive 89,195 who downloaded Gary Barlow and The Commonwealth Band’s new song ‘Sing,’ which was written specially for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Mitchell’s near flop must be all the more upsetting for the winner of the BBC series, when compared to fellow finalists Bo Bruce’s EP, which is riding high at number 5 in the album charts.

An insider told The Sun:

“Leanne is the people’s champ but maybe those people aren’t record buyers. She’s an amazing singer but not someone the kids — who download singles — are going to get behind.”

It’s like Joe McElderry all over again!

The rankings are bound to worry Universal Music, who have offered Leanne a record deal as a result of her winning the show. They will now have to market and release an album of songs by the stunning singer and executives may now be concerned about how well that will sell.

We think it all depends on the material she releases next.

Have you bought Leanne’s single? Will you be buying her album? Leave your comments below….

It was the wrong song choice for her by a long mile. Whoever decided that was going to be her first single needs to be shot. She sang WAY better on so many other songs and should never have released this song. They need to make her current somehow, they need to market her very well for it to work. I hope she does well because she seems like a nice girl.

We are tired of covers being released by all these “winners”. They need to have original material instead of just being cover artists…….

Brought the single and as long as the album has plenty of true powerful beautiful songs like Run To You i will buy that as well! The problem is that BBC/TheVoice didnt advertise that Run To You was going to be released, i never knew until i went looking for it… You know the X factor Winner releases a song straight away, we didnt know with the Voice.

I have not bought the single, as I rarely download music. I will, however, purchase her album, when it comes out. I hope she does well, as she is an amazing singer, & seems a very sweet young lady.

Leanne needs to write her own songs not cover versions having murdered Whitney Houstons music career what is going to murder next i wonder
