Jessie J has revealed that her team on The Voice will be very different to the other coaches’.
The ‘Domino’ hitmaker returned to her big red spinning chair earlier this year and has already filmed most of the shows for this year’s BBC series and at the press launch earlier this month, she admitted that she is looking for different qualities in her contestants.
Jessie doesn’t need her singers to have the full package right away and revealed that she is more interested in her hopefuls ‘tone’ than in their ‘pitch.’ She explained:
“Tone, tone and more tone! I don’t look for pitch straight away.”
“I do think you can teach pitch, but in comparison, for example, I think Sir Tom goes for the big voice.”
“For me, the vocals and personality is what I have been focusing on.”
” I’d like to think my team is the strongest. They are young, fresh, happy and interesting when it comes to the vocals. They are an eclectic mix.”
The ‘Price tag’ singer also admitted that things have gotten heated between her, Tom, Danny O’Donoghue and Will.i.am at points and revealed that she very much disagreed with some of their choices during the Battle Rounds.
As the stars pitted their artists against one another, choosing half for the next round and sending half home, Jessie admitted that she didn’t support some of her fellow coaches’ decisions and explained:
“Sometimes I have to remember I am on TV and calm down when I’m in the chair. During the filming of the Battle Rounds I was so shocked at some of the decisions made that I could not hide it in my face and I said so.”
The brunette beauty – who recently had her head shaved for Comic Relief – admitted that she is more ‘real’ and more ‘honest’ on the 2013 run, which begins this Saturday on BBC One.
“I am always real. I am always quite direct and straight to the point. I am honest and I think I am very caring towards the Artists when they’re in front of us.”
