Fans of The Voice will know that coaches Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue have quit – they announced their decisions to leave the show at the end of the last series – and now, as it looks like Sir Tom Jones is set to follow suit, insiders have branded the talent quest a “sinking ship!”
Earlier this year, a source close to Welsh icon Tom hinted that he may not be back for a new series in 2014 while remarking that he’s keen to refocus his energies on his own music career…
And according to The Sun’s TV Biz today, that’s exactly what he’s about to do, but his decision to quit has reportedly sent BBC bosses into a panic as they try to make plans for the new series.
The paper reports, “Sources say bosses of the BBC1 show have launched a charm offensive to keep the Welsh singer on board for the third series.
“His representatives have been locked in showdown talks with production company Wall to Wall this week. Show chiefs fear that if Sir Tom leaves then the last remaining coach, US star Will.i.am, will also bail out.”
A show insider said, “Tom leaving would be another massive blow for The Voice.
“His credibility is a huge asset and he would be very hard to replace.
“A third star deserting the show would also give the impression it is a sinking ship.
“And if Will.i.am was left the last man standing it could affect how he feels about signing up.”
However, last night, a spokesman for Sir Tom declined to comment, but a BBC spokesperson said, “It is not true that either Tom or Will have decided to leave.
“The line-up is still to be confirmed and we are in ongoing conversations.”
We will of course keep you posted when there are any developments, but for now, here’s a reminder of Tom on the show…
