The Voice Battle Rounds: Powerful Vince Freeman loses out to ‘fragile’ Bo Bruce – right choice? (VIDEO)
Vince previously impressed The Script frontman, with his barefoot performance of ‘Sex On Fire’ at his London blind audition for the panel.
However, Bo had the judges fighting over her back then and Danny argued with Will over record collections and soup in a bid to land her for him team at the tryouts.
Tonight, the pair went head to head on a version of ’With Or Without You’ by U2 and Danny admitted that he paired them together because he thought their ‘contrasting voices’ would ‘melt really well together.’
During the rehearsal session, Bruce admitted that she felt Vince was ‘leading’ the performance and Mr O’D admitted that he could perhaps be overshadowing the female vocalist and he was worried that people would think he was just trying to ‘drown the girl out.’ He advised Freeman to ‘reign in his power’ which seemed to worry Vince, as that’s his thing.
Taking to the stage, the alternative singer and the rocker entered the ring and Vince kicked things off. He held back for the first verse and in the second, showed a little more of his strength, which worked perfectly well, as we had an insight into the light and shade of his performance capabilities.
Bo’s vocals were so smooth and stunning and though she looked nervous during the start of the number, she soon relaxed on stage and by the end looked positively delighted to be there.
Afterwards, will.i.am admitted that he didn’t know whether to ‘be honest’ or give a ‘whole lot of BS to throw Danny off,’ but he decided that honesty was the best policy. The Black Eyed Peas singer thought Bo was ‘an amazing singer.’ He added:
“It was like I was watching a Grammy performance, but Vince you are like Dave Matthews, selling out your own festivals. You guys are superstars.’
Tom thought it was a ‘great duet,’ and confessed that he couldn’t pick ‘one over the other.’
Deliberating over his choice Danny said:
‘I have grown to know these people over the course of the show and I love them both the same. Bo the fragile nature of your performance can almost make people underestimate you, until you open your mouth and then magic happens. Vince I wanted to hear you reigned in a little bit and I thought you executed it beautifully tonight. It was really, really great.’
‘I’m basing this decision on who I think will go into the music business straight away and sell the most records.’
‘The person I will take to the live shows is Bo Bruce.’
