The Voice Battle Rounds: Vince Kidd beats Jessica Hammond to Team Jessie J – right choice? (VIDEO)

Vince Kidd and Jessica Hammond were the last duo from Team Jessie to perform on tonight’s Battle Rounds episode of The Voice and theirs was one of the most contentious sign offs of the night.

All week we have been wondering how Jessie J would choose between the London born man who wowed the panel with his stripped back version of ‘Like A Virgin’ by Madonna in blind auditions and the Northern Irish girl who wowed all four coaches with her version of ‘Price Tag’ and who has been one of the bookies favourites to win the entire series from day one.

This evening the ‘Domino’ hitmaker revealed that the pair would be singing ‘We Found Love’ by Rihanna and while there should have been real attitude and competition between the duo, their vocal coaching session was like a love in, with both hopefuls praising each other’s style. It was all very sweet!

However, Jessie got down to business after hearing them sing for the first time and insisted it was all lovely, but not battley enough. She demonstrated how she wanted them to attack the lyrics and the vocals and told them to ‘play about’ with the notes.

The pair took to the stage and Jess kicked off the song in a low key manner. It was all very soulful and when Vince came in we could see why these two enjoy performing together, they complimented each other so well.

Things moved up a notch after the first verse and got much more dancey and upbeat. While both singers were great vocally, we once again thought that the coach may have made a bad choice when it came to the song and like ‘Yeah X3′ for Heshima Thompson and Tyler James, we didn’t feel that this Rihanna track did anything for either Kidd or Hammond’s voice. Neither one shone to the best of their ability.

Afterwards, Tom Jones admitted that both singers were ‘crackers’ but he thought the key was more suited to Vince and he would choose him. Danny confessed that he was worried for Jess at the start, because he thought she would get ‘swallowed up’ but he thought she ‘held her own.’

Deliberating, Jessie said:

‘You were the two that put your own spin on songs during the blind auditions and that’s what I loved about you. You just did that there again and you did it well. You two were two people that drew me into your voices and I’ve enjoyed working with you so much. This is tough.’

Revealing her final decision she added:

‘The person I’m taking through to lives with me is Vince.’

Did you agree with Jessie tonight? Who would you have sent home? Leave your comments below.

Jessica Hammond should have gone through !

I worried about all the pressure on Jessica as a ‘favorite’, that she would not be able to deliver on the expectations when moving away from the stripped back vocals with guitar – a style the definitely suits her.
I think this showed my concerns, she has a good but not a great voice, but is definitely an engaging presence with a cute smile! I hope this is not the last we see of her, but I think Jessie made a good call, and Jessica leaves on a high.
Of course, now great things are expected of Vince!
