The Voice: Hannah Berney says ‘instinct’ drew her to coach Danny O’Donoghue….
The cheerleading student won the support of The Script frontman and Welsh legend Tom Jones, when she wowed them with her version of Lady Gaga’s You And I at her blind audition earlier this year.
Both men wanted Hannah for their team but she decided to forget about her Welsh loyalties and opted to join the Irish star instead. On why she wanted a place in Team Danny, Berney told Wales Online:
“What they did not show was most contestants were able to ask what the judges could offer us. I asked both Danny and Tom and Tom gave some really lovely responses but it was Danny’s response that really struck a chord with me and the artistic direction I wanted to go in. He also spoke about the song choices which he saw me doing.”
Hannah appreciated Tom’s positive commentary but says instinct drew her to the younger coach. She added:
“Tom was really lovely about me, but it was just instinct that made me think about being in Danny’s team. Tom’s from the same town as my family but the Irish contestants did not choose Danny and the English contestants did not choose Jessie and I didn’t choose Tom. I think it should be about the musicality, not patriotism.”
Hannah will give her first live performance when The Voice returns to our screens tonight, 7pm on BBC One.
She and her fellow members of Team Danny will be in the spotlight, along with the members of Team Jessie J and on the following Sunday night results show, one singer from each team will be sent home.
