The Voice UK: David Julien explains why he chose Danny O’Donoghue and admits lots of people think he’s a girl!
David Julien has explained exactly why he chose Danny O’Donoghue over Will.i.am when he auditioned for The Voice.
The 23 year old singer took a risk at his tryout for the BBC show and sang a Script song named ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ for the Danny, who wrote the track.
Thankfully, O’Donoghue loved it and raved:
“When I heard it, I heard the same heart and the same intention and the same emotion that was there when I wrote it so that’s why I pressed my buzzer. It was fantastic.”
However, Will felt the same and added:
“I pushed my button because I liked your voice but you also have room to grow and become a mega mega artist.”
On why he chose the Irish singer over the Black Eyed Peas frontman, David explained:
“Danny is the better choice for me because he’s more my kind of thing.”
One thing that could have thrown Julien, was the fact that Welsh legend Tom Jones admitted that he didn’t turn around when listening to David sing, because he thought he was a girl.
However, it isn’t the first time someone has commented on his feminine vocal qualities and the hopeful laughed:
“Surprisingly, I’ve been told I sound like a girl before, so Tom Jones thinking I was a girl is fine.”
David gave up his job to audition for The Voice, so he knows that he really has to give it his best shot.
“If I don’t get this I go back to a job which I don’t have, so I’ll have to find a job,” he said, adding:
“Hopefully this will pay off big time and I’ll be able to do what I love for a living and do it well!”
