The Voice UK: David Julien says his former obesity ruined his confidence
When David Julien sang The Script’s The Man Who Can’t Be Moved for his The Voice audition, the judges were impressed, and within minutes Danny O’Donoghue – who of course had a hit with the track – spun his chair around.
However, it seems that David wouldn’t have auditioned if he’d had to be face to face with the coaches, because he struggles with confidence issues having once been obese.
Now a slim 13st, Danny told the Sun, “I’m still not a skinny guy. I still feel self-conscious about my size so it was nice that they weren’t able to see me.
“I’d never have done X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, but this was different to any other show…
“That crucial first impression is made just through your voice, not how you look, and that’s what appealed to me.
“I think the nerves might have got the better of me if I had to stand there and look right at them.”
But as mentioned, Danny spun his chair round almost immediately, as did Will.i.am, and after some tense moments, David chose to be on team Danny.
However, of Sir Tom Jones telling him he sounded like a girl, David laughed, “I’ve been told I sound like a girl before so Tom thinking I was a girl – it’s fine.”
