The Voice UK: Matt & Sueleen disappoint Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue with ‘Missing’ (VIDEO)

Matt and Sueleen returned to The Voice stage tonight, in the knowledge that there was a fifty percent chance it would be their final performance ever on the BBC show.

The duo took on Matt & Sueleen – ‘Missing’ by Everything But The Girl and revealed beforehand that they were incredibly nervous about the fact that after all the live performances, half of Team Tom would be axed from the series.

We thought it was a great song choice for the pair, especially considering the fact that back in 1994 it reignited the career of the alternative pop music duo Everything But The Girl.

‘Gandalf’ kicked the song off with a really interesting guitar line. It sounded almost sinister. This one threw us back to their first performance in that the vocal harmonies were quite uncomfortable to listen to, especially Sueleen on this occasion. The clash in their voices was too much really. We love this couple and their version of Go Your Own Way was a highlight on The Voice this year, but this was a disappointment sadly.

The couple said that it was a test that they were facing apart tonight.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Tom Jones praised the couple for flipping the song and making it their own, before going into an extended CV of his own duets. Danny O’Donoghue was a little colder about things, and noted that the harmonies were a little bit off. We’re glad that he had the balls to come out and say it.

Will.I.Am said he wanted to hear more from Matt and Sueleen and said that the park bench concept looked amazing. Jessie seemed to be ambivalent about the performance, saying that it didn’t show them off to their full potential. Matt tried to defend the staging concept with both of them on park benches, but to be fair it was a bit of a disaster.

It’s such a breath of fresh air to have a couple like Matt and Sueleen on a music talent show like the Voice. I thought their harmonies and the song choice were amazing.
