So, welcome to the 21st century people, where the digital age takes over. So much so that you’re never an email away from being invited to be a coach on The Voice UK.
Well, that was the case for a certain Ricky Wilson. We may nearly be half way through this year’s proceedings for The Voice UK, but it has come to light that Ricky was first approached about a spot on The Voice via an email. The producers are just THAT busy, they don’t have time to sit by a phone anymore…
The rocker revealed that he wasn’t too sure about joining up at first and he didn’t know whether they wanted him as a contestant or not.
He said: “I got an email, and then I was like, oh no way, I don’t want to do that.
“I kind of thought, maybe they would want me as a contestant?”
WHAT! Do you really think that little of yourself, Wilson? Of course they didn’t want you as a contestant, they wanted your expertise. And whilst you’re at it, teach them how to use a phone.
He went on to say that he took the email to the guys in the band and asked their opinion, and he thought everyone was going to say no… and he had no surprise when they said exactly that.
“And then you sleep on it and you start thinking of how proud you are of your new record,” he added.
Now, you may be wondering why Ricky joined The Voice then. Could it be because he loves the show, could it be because he really wants to help out other budding artists? Well, not quite… it’s mainly because he wants to plug his new album, apparently.
Speaking on Absolute Radio earlier today (Friday, February 14), Ricky said that people have their TV’s on in the corner of their rooms and whether they are watching it or not, they will still hear and without “sounding vulgar”, Ricky said that he wants as many people as possible to hear about the Kaiser Chiefs’ new album because he’s so proud of it – and it’s understandable. Even if he didn’t go on the show with those intentions, his appearance would still plug the album in one way or another.
But, on a serious note, Ricky did say that he joined the show to “give back to the talent of the future”, but he also has an album coming out that ain’t gonna plug itself.
Well, Ricky, here’s a little plug just for you… The Kaiser Chiefs’ new album ‘Education, Education, Education & War’ will be released on March 31, 2014.
And, just in case the beeb gets jealous, The Voice UK continues tomorrow evening (February 15) at 7:10pm with the penultimate round of Blind Audition’s on BBC One.
