The Voice UK: Lee Glasson beats Jimmy Weston after tense battle!

The Voice UK 2014 - Lee Glasson

Jimmy Weston, Lee Glasson, Jake Shears, Kylie Minogue

Team Kylie got a bit serious on tonight’s episode of The Voice, when Lee Glasson and Jimmy Weston went head to head.

The men were paired for the battle rounds and told they would be performing When You Were Young by The Killers but things didn’t go so well in rehearsals.

Lee was a bit unsure of his lines and the song in general, while Jimmy seemed convinced he was being given the rubbish sections and was only singing the chorus, while Glasson shone.

Before they took to the stage Kylie Minogue insisted that both men were ready to do a great job, saying:

“Jimmy has got that lovely, raspy Bryan Adams type rock voice. Lee likes to really put his take on it.”

Jimmy was desperate to succeed and told the team:

“I don’t want to go home, I really hope that Kylie can see I am a real musician up there, playing some rock and roll. Hopefully she is going to love it.”

Lee was determined to show his best side too and added:

“It’s all about what happens on the day. he could nail it but I intend to go out there and let my voice do the talking.”

The men certainly didn’t appear to gel on stage, but the performance went well for both.

Afterwards Kylie said:

“[That was] One of my favourite songs and they both did it justice in very different ways. You are like rock stars individually, one classic, one indie, but you are both good.” gave Jimmy his backing saying:

“You have an amazing voice but then Lee, your vibrato and high notes, you were rocking too. This was an amazing combo. Just because it seems classic, I would go with Jimmy.”

Tom Jones seemed to agree and said:

“It’s a hard one. Jimmy you sounded a bit like Rod Stewart, I remember him when he started. Lee you sounded a bit tense, like you wanted to eat that mic. Looking at your arms I can understand why. You look like you work out a lot, so I don’t want you coming over here and giving me a right hand. The high notes, you were less tense, you started to float up there.”

However, despite the advice form her fellow coaches, Kylie chose to save Lee and no one else wanted to steal Jimmy, so the Coventry lad went home.

Loved Lee’s comment about being there to take direction from a global superstar, not Jimmy Weston from Coventry! 😀

Lee looked like a rabbit in the headlights. He was screechy and often flat. It’s impossible to see how Kylie chose him on that performance. Unless the show is all about something other than The Voice? I imagine Jimmy pissed someone off with his manner and was marked for the chop before a note was sung.
