First up in front of the judges to represent Sheffield in the X Factor competition is 16 year old student Nathaniel Smith who believes he has a voice that can take him far. Before his audition, a confident Nathaniel tells the cameras “I’ve got the power, the strength, the emotions, and the soul. I’m not gonna stop at anything, I’m gonna give it everything I’ve got.”

Inside the judging room, Dannii asks Nathaniel where he sees himself in five years time. “Hopefully, I see myself singing to thousands, maybe millions of people.” Singing a long and drawn out version of And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from the Dreamgirls musical accompanied by a girlie giggle at the end, Nathaniel’s rendition leaves the judges speechless. Louis is the first to break the silence when he bursts out laughing, saying “it was bizarre.” Simon says, “I think you need to change your record collection, it was you trying to sound like Whitney or Jennifer Hudson. The whole thing was like you were possessed or something, it was just weird.” With a definitive no from Simon, will the other judges take pity on Nathaniel and give him the three yes’s he needs to go through to the next round?
