Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah Biggest Selling Single Of 2009

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has received more good news as news emerged that her cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah is the best-selling U.K. single of 2008.

The talent show champion is currently occupying top place in the British chart with her version of the classic track, and it’s now officially the biggest single of 2008 after shifting 888,000 copies.

And Burke also features on the second biggest-selling single of the year, a cover of Mariah Carey’s Hero sung by The X Factor finalists, which sold 751,000 copies.

Welsh singer Duffy’s Mercy sold 531,000 copies to finish third on the end of year singles chart, while Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl and Nickelback’s Rockstar rounded out the top five.

    We do need to see the return then of the million selling singles that were christmas songs or christmas novelty songs. The proof is here in the figures above. A serious song at christmas sells 888.000.00 Eighthundred and eightyeight thousand.

    Well done though for being the highest selling single so far.
