Applicants for the 2010 series of The X Factor will now be able to apply for Britain’s biggest singing competition by uploading their own audition videos.

For the first time in the history of The X Factor, wannabe singing superstars can audition from their own home by creating and uploading video performances.

Alongside existing ways of applying by phone, post and online, audition hopefuls will now have the choice of uploading a video performance as part of their application. This is optional and applicants are still encouraged to apply without a video however it offers an opportunity to anyone who wants to stand out from the crowd to show off their vocals before the nationwide audition tour starts.

Simon Cowell said: “This is an obvious step forward for us and we will ensure that every clip is watched carefully and presents another opportunity for people to enter The X Factor”
