Ashley Cole has reportedly told Cheryl Cole that they should permanently go their separate ways, because he can’t guarantee that he won’t cheat again.

The football ace was outed last year as having slept with at least five other women while he was married to the former X Factor judge and this year, while supposedly wooing her back, is thought to have strayed again.

Having spent months trying to win Cheryl’s heart again, insiders report that the Chelsea player has called time on their relationship for good, because he just doesn’t trust himself.

A source told Now magazine:

‘Ashley and Cheryl’s relationship has never been fully back on.’

‘While she vowed to give him another chance, he had six months to prove how much he wanted her back.

‘She promised not to make it official until she could see how serious he was.

‘But in a shock phone call last weekend, Ashley told Cheryl he couldn’t risk hurting her again, and didn’t trust himself to commit to her 100 per cent.’

Cheryl is currently working on her third solo album with Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am and is thought to have lined up collaborations with Rihanna, Usher and Christina Aguilera.
