Austin Drage Plans To Make It Big With Band ‘The Camerons’
We had a chat with outgoing X Factor singer, Austin Drage today (keep your eye on Unreality’s homepage for the fully transcribed interview) and he revealed that not only would he be pursuing a career in music, but that he already had a band set up and ready to go.
Before auditioning for the X Factor Austin had actually been lead singer and guitarist for a band named ‘The Camerons’ and the group have recorded almost an album’s worth of material.
We asked Austin about his band and what they had planned for the future, he replied:
“Yeah, we’re going to hopefully release something when I get back on my feet and hopefully everything will be all gravy when we get back together. We haven’t got a website or anything yet, we’re just waiting for everything to be ready to kind of jump out. I don’t want to give too much away at the moment.”
The clip above is of Austin and The Camerons playing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Master Blaster’ live at The Globe Hackney.
So what do you think of Austin and his band? As always leave your comments below!

Who would have thought that Austin had this in him!!! I loved him on X Factor but he is so much better when he picks his own material. He can even rap for goodness sake!! Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for!
Well… I’m not sure if that counts as a band. Unless any pop singer’s backing track is part of his/her band. They were remarkably unremarkable and hardly had any stage presence – no chemistry. He did sing well but it just all sounded like a solo artist’s pop song. And the ‘rapping’… Indescribable. The overwhelming tone of boring and ‘meh’ suddenly changed to scratching my ears out painful. Embarrassing.
Who the fuck are you Q12? Louis Walsh, trying to put the final nail in Austins coffin? You have left comments all over the place ripping Austin to shreds, and you are the only one who feels this way! Austin is an undeniable rare talent and I think if Simon gives him a contract and allows him to do his own thing he will go far. He is the one X factor contestant that I looked forward to seeing week after week, and not only was I never diappointed but I was blown away every time by his passion and raw talent. He was born to do this. I dont know what Louis and Cheryl were talking about when they said 1.He didnt connect with the public and, 2. He didnt sing with emotion. I think he sings every word ike he means it and coped brilliantly with whatever song was thrown at him week after week, unlike others like Rachel, etc. As for him not comnnecting with the public, well the well publicised public uproar and outrage at Austin being voted out speaks for itself!
Austin should at the very least have made it to the top 3. So many people, on this and other sites have said that when they tried to vote in for Austin they couldnt get through and when they finally did then it registered as a vote for someone else! There is definitely something suspicious going on there, Im not saying it is some sort of ITV conspiracy, but perhaps just a computer fault? It has happened before on other voting shows! His performances have been consistently original and phenomenal, proving his talent and his versatility. His performance of Billie-Jean was OUTSTANDING. Better than Chris Cornell and David Cook from American Idol (I have done my research, lol). Everyone I know thought so, and yet Louis ripped him to shreds talking about the arrangement! Clearly Louis doesnt know what he is talking about and it was just a chance for him to have a dig at Simons contestant. Austin also comes across as such a down-to-earth and sweet gentleman. Without a doubt, the most talented male ever to enter any of these competitions. He is also a musician and a songwriter, unlike many other stars who have made it big simply by standing in front of a mic and singing other peoples songs. Check out clips from some of his band’s live gigs on youtube – very soulful. If Simon has any sense he should give Austin a contract. Im sure he will come up with some brilliant songs if given the chance and not cheesy pop songs, but something with more of an edge. Failing that he should be brought back to the programme, and not be forced out because of faulty phone lines, sympathy votes for other contestants by the public, and tactical voting by the judges who see him as a threat! They should seriously get over themselves and their rivalry and realise they are crushing a genuinely gifted young man’s dreams!
Diana is over-rated and annoying, and I cannot understand the words of the songs when Laura sings. Alexandra is our only hope now! Good luck Alex! Much love to Austin, best of luck in the future, you deserve only good things to come to you and plenty of success. P.S. Saw you in Snatch, loved your Irish accent, was so cute! Sorry we cant vote from the Republic of Ireland but just want you to know IRELAND LOVES YOU BABE!
I think this is brilliant. Austin has an amazing voice. Can’t believe he was voted off the xfactor, though with a band like that he doesn’t need the xfactor. Hopefully the publicity he has had so far will kick start what should be an amazing career as I think he totally deserves it.
I think they sound great this is just a casual jamming sesh and you can see it suits austins voice and style, talented musicians! I look forward to hearing what they create, this is so much better then xfactors idea of austin, i disagree with q12 i think the bass player is fab these guys have great chemistry, I have seen some other footage on you tube its good
