It’s been claimed today that US singing icon Barry Manilow has written a song for former X Factor boy band Kingsland Road, and apparently, they “can’t wait” to record it and to have it feature on their debut album.
A source close to the band said, “Barry was impressed when he was told about them and agreed to write a song for them.”
To The Sun’s TV Biz, the source added, “The boys can’t wait to record it.”
Kingsland Road left X Factor last year after the judges chose to save Tamera Foster after both acts landed in the bottom two of the public vote.
At the time, Kingsland Road band member JJ Thompson said, “When we knew we were going up against Tamera, we knew we were going home.”
Singer Josh Zare added, “She is a star, outright, and everyone knows that. She just looks like a star. She doesn’t even have to open her mouth.
“We kind of thought [with the sing-off] let’s just give it everything we’ve got, we might as well, it’s probably going to be our last performance on the show.”
Things took another turn for the worse for the lads back in November when it was revealed that their charity auction had been hijacked by hoaxers who placed fake bids.
One of those was a bid of £7,900 for one of the band’s guitars, and of course, the hoaxer refused to pay up. However, the lads re-ran the auction and the funds subsequently raised went to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for their new £4million cancer unit.
At the time, the lads wrote on Twitter, “We’re gutted that someone can pretend to bid for something and raise the hopes of sick kids.”
The hospital’s fundraising manager Vikki Savery added, “We’re absolutely devastated to hear from Kingsland Road about this hoax bidder and can’t believe that someone could be so cruel.
“The money that the lads thought they’d raised was going to help us to get even closer to making our dreams a reality.”
Sadly, it no longer surprises me how vile people can be, but anyway, let’s have a reminder of Kingsland Road on X Factor…
