Bootcamp Review: Groups Category
Simon who was not happy at receiving the groups category was not hopeful on the first day of camp stating ” my gut feeling is it’s not going to be a great day” and he was right! He asked each of his groups to practice a song accompanied with a dance routine, and when very few acts impressed the judges Simon’s mood plummeted!
In a private meeting with the other two judges Simon said of the acts “really dissappointing! to the point that I am starting to get into a mild panic” “I think we are in trouble!”
The moods of the judges lifted slightly after the performance of boyband Fortune. Although Simon thought they were “over rehearsed” Sinita was more impressed and thought they were “ready to go on tour”
Boybands seemed to be the big hit of the day and 4th Base also impressed with their version of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper”. The only problem Simon had with them was their image, he said “They did sound good but I hate the way they look”. Their second performance though was plagued with tuning problems and the judges were not impressed when the group stopped mid song and attempted to start all over again.
Boyband “The Brothers” pulled off another good performance with “I’ll never break your heart”, though Simon thought “the group looked odd” and also thought they were “very karaoke”.
Irish Band The Conway Sisters, who are being proclaimed as the next “Corrs” crumbled under the pressure on the second day of bootcamp. And when they were given only one hour to learn and rehearse The Eagles song ‘Desperado’ they lost the words halfway through. Simon thought they were “potentially great but this is what happens when you put people under pressure”
Sinita thought Addictive Ladies were adorable and Simon said “Its not right but it is right”
Of Eskimo Blondes rendition of Britney Spear’s ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ Simon said “Its still a mess but I really really really like this girl group!”
In the end Simon managed to whittle the acts down to the final seven, he chose:
Addictiv Ladies, The Brothers, The Conway Sisters, Eskimo Blonde, Journey South, 4thba5e and 4Tune.
