As we reported yesterday, this year’s auditions for Britain’s Got Talent kicked off in Cardiff, and of course, Simon Cowell was back as head judge, and he proved that living stateside hasn’t mellowed him out at all as he dismissed the first TEN acts who tried out.
However, his ruthlessness yesterday might be indicative of how he intends to continue with both BGT and X Factor, as of course, the latter show is to be subjected to a huge shake-up this year to drag it out of the ratings doldrums it was in this year.
He began yesterday’s bitchfest by warning the wannabes that they had to “seriously impress” him to be in with a chance of getting through to the next round, and according to an insider, that rule will apply to X Factor auditions this year too…
However, Simon won’t be there – on the UK show – to make sure no “novelty” acts make it through as he’s yet again going to put all his efforts into the USA version.
The Sun reports, “At Britain’s Got Talent auditions in Cardiff, Simon was asked if he would be on the X Factor.
A source said, “Simon shook his head. People weren’t happy.”
The insider continued, “With X Factor on the wane, it’s doubly important for Simon to make Britain’s Got Talent a success.
“He believes the only way to do that is with the best acts. He’s shaking up X Factor and that’s spilling over into BGT.
“Simon is happy to show the rubbish acts getting a pasting in the audition rounds. But for the live finals he’s looking for the seriously unique and astonishing.
“Yesterday’s first auditions show saw him take a very no-nonsense approach.
“He’s going back to basics — rubbish acts are buzzed off and good acts put through.”
It has of course been rumoured that Sharon Osbourne will be returning to the X Factor judging panel this year, though as yet, there’s no official word on the line-up for the new series, but we will of course keep you posted.
Here’s a clip of Simon talking about BGT…
