Britney Spears leaving X Factor USA for new TV sitcom?
The ‘Toxic’ hitmaker was paid millions of dollars to join the judging panel of the talent show in 2012, in the hope that having some big name stars on the series would help pull The X Factor out of it’s ratings slump.
However, while the lineup and the stars certainly got more tabloid and media coverage, the attention did not boost viewing figures enough and it’s been claimed that bosses are considering dropping Britney and saving some cash when they firm up the lineup for 2013.
Given her fragile mental health history, we would have half expected Spears to be in some sort of meltdown about the news, however sources say she is busy working on her next career move and insiders say she wants to take up a role on a sitcom.
A source told Radar Online:
“Britney’s manager, Larry Rudolph, is reading television scripts that the singer could accept. Britney’s dad, Jamie feels that having his daughter on a sitcom would be a good fit for her.
“Britney needs to be kept busy, and a structured environment such as a television sitcom would be a natural fit for her.”
Of course the mum of two has some TV experience and in 2008 she guest-starred on the How I Met Your Mother episode “Ten Sessions” as receptionist Abby. She received positive reviews for her performance, as well as bringing the series its highest ratings ever.
In September 2010, she made a cameo appearance on a Spears-themed tribute episode of American TV show Glee, titled “Britney/Brittany”. The episode also drew Glee’s highest ratings ever.
The source believes Brit could really shine in another longer running role and continued:
“She actually has very natural comedic talents and is very funny, in an airhead sort of way.”
Britney may need to throw herself into her career, as it’s been reported that she’s having a rough time with her fiancé Jason Trawick. The pair have been engaged for a year and are supposedly planning their dream wedding, however she was spotted out without her three carat diamond engagement ring this week and insiders have suggested that things are rocky between the pair.
Apparently 41-year-old Jason has been fighting with the blonde beauty because he wants his own children, while she’s happy to stick with the two she has.
The source said: ‘Britney said Jason wants to be a father, and while he’s happily taken on the role of stepdad to both Jayden and Preston, he still wants Britney to have his kids.’
