Capital FM bump One Direction from playlist after Harry Styles Brit Awards mixup? Will you still be tuning in?

Capital FM radio station are said to have bumped One Direction msuic from their playlist for the time being, after the boys made a bit of a mistake when accepting their Brit Award on Tuesday night.

Harry Styles was accepting the trophy for Best British Single, as voted for by listeners of Capital FM and in his excitement at taking their first ever Brit, thanked the listeners of rival station Radio 1. Most likely the confusion was caused by the fact that he had just been on Radio 1′s breakfast show this week, to wish DJ Chris Moyles a happy birthday.

However Capital bosses were not at all understanding of the gaffe and The Guardian reports that Styles comments went down like a lead balloon with station executives.

Global Radio boss Ashley Tabor and his director of programming Richard Park were in attendance at the ceremony and were both said to be left furious by Styles’ comments.

It is reported that the X Factor stars were supposed to be appearing on the station early the next morning, but were cancelled as a result of their mistake.

The newspaper also claims that bosses insisted that the boyband were bumped down the station’s playlist and the next day, despite their Brits triumph, received no airplay at all.

“One Direction as far as Capital are concerned are only going in one direction,” said one industry source.

A spokesperson for One Direction have since apologised for and explained Harry’s faux pas, issuing a statement saying:

“This was an oversight as the boys were caught up in the excitement of winning. The band would like take this opportunity to thank Capital Radio and all their listeners for their support and for voting for them.”

We imagine that Capital will change their attitude pretty sharpish, if all the One Direction fans take exception to their attitude towards their idols and tune into another station.

After all, not only are the boys riding high in the UK, but they have also topped charts in Sweden and Italy and today became the first British act to have a single debut in the American Billboard Hot 100, since The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ was released back in 1998.

Do you think Capital bosses were right to be so upset? Leave your comments below.

It won’t affect my listening habits one bit – can’t stand Capital FM, they play dreadful music, including One Direction until yesterday.

These must be the luckiest boys in the world at the moment – to have those sales with next to no talent is indeed anachievement. What would they do without autotune?

next to no talent? they have good voices, a great look and charisma and as someone who has seen them live can say they put on a show. not being your kind of music, doesnt make it talentless. bore off
