Nervous Christopher Maloney and his lovely little nan almost bring a tear to the eyes of the X Factor judges! (VIDEO)
Christopher Maloney was the big X Factor closing act tonight, in the slot reserved for the act that always brings tears to viewers’ eyes and leaves a lasting impression on fans of the show.
The 34 singer revealed that he has loved singing for years but of course, has never done it publicly before, because he struggles with self esteem issues. He works as a customer service assistant in a call centre and thought that’s where he would spend his days, until he took to the stage and received a pretty amazing response from the X Factor panel.
Speaking to producers beforehand, the Scouse singer admitted that he has downloaded a form to apply for the ITV show many times over the years but always ends up binning it and pulling out, believing that he didn’t stand a chance of making it through.
This year though his Nan convinced him to ignore those who have knocked his confidence over the years and told him to get himself down to the tryouts, which were presided over by Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Tulisa and guest judge Geri Halliwell.
Maloney revealed that the song he had chosen to perform, was one very close to his heart, as it had been played at his grandfather’s funeral and was his grandmother’s favourite tune. With incredibly shaky hands that seemed almost unable to keep his mic in the air, Chris then delivered an accomplished rendition of The Rose by Bette Midler.
Gary looked on in surprise and the judges seemed stunned by his talent, with Tulisa giving Chris her doe eyed look throughout the song.
After the performance Barlow asked how he had managed to keep his voice hidden for all of his life? Louis Walsh insisted that the talented performer had totally ‘stolen the show’, while Geri added that she was sure he was ‘going to be a star.’
Tulisa thanked Chris for taking the leap and singing for them and assured the shaky singer that his Granddad would be very ‘proud’ of the performance he had just delivered in his memory.
They brought his lovely little nan out on stage and as she cuddled him, the panel rained praise and positivity on her talented grandson.
Unsurprisingly Chris won four yeses from the judges and sailed through to bootcamp round. If he makes it as far as judges houses, he will be mentored by Gary Barlow, who will be assisted by Cheryl Cole when he picks his final four overs contestants next week.
Did you enjoy Maloney’s performance tonight and do you think he’s good enough for the lives? Leave your comments below….

Chris was absolutely brilliant.
Only one word for it FANTASTIC…hope he goes far!
I thought that was amazing , gorgeous voice and sung with so much passion
First word ‘BRILLIANT’ Hope to see a lot of him! HE IS THE BEST!
Keep replaying it, absolutely loved his voice. Does anyone else think he looks like the fireman (Eileen’s flame) out of Corrie?
Omg do you all actually believe this rubbish,he,s a singer he did the cruise ships seriously do you have to come up with a load of bull to get on xfactor its like who,s got the best sob story made me laugh with the shaky hand and crying with his nan in the wings ,people are so gullible xfactor and all shows like it are killing music off it makes me sick.
Whether this is true or not it’s irrelavent – the guy can sing!
Thats the point he is a singer,so why make up a sob story? So to me it is relevant !
You cant go on programmes like xfactor and say actually I am a singer, there always has to be a sob back story like I am a butcher and my wifes ill and she said I should go for my dreams of singing so I,m doing it for her.
Programmes like these are tv fodder and belittle hard working singers and musicians.
It’s not the sob story that will make him succeed, most people can see through that and also realise that this is what the TV producers mistakenly think jo public wants to hear. At the end of the day he has a cracking voice and I’m with gary Barlow on this – where on earth has he been hiding this voice? What has stopped him from applying before now?
I think you have totally missed my point,I dont watch Xfactor I watched the link here for the 1st and last time,a Tv programme should not dictate who we hear on the radio or who gets signed to a record deal .Real singers and musicians put a lot of heart and soul in to what they do and programmes like this degrade that. You shouldnt have to go on these programmes and lie,So I,m really not bothered about why he hasnt applied before because there is alot of proper talented singers out there that would rather starve than go on a show like this because they have integrity.
I don’t think I have ever heard such drivel and I do not believe that any singer with talent would turn down the opportunity to get such exposure. You are basically saying that those singers that do have talent (and let’s face it there are an awful lot on the show who don’t) have no integrity – I think that is total bs.
Listen Dawn don,t start attacking me for my opinion I,m married to a singer/songwriter/musician ,and have every right to my opinion ,and actually no most singers etc would not want to belittle themselves to go on a crap show that belittles there art so the only bs is coming out of your mouth .
Clearly hit a nerve. Your being married to a singer/songwriter whatever doesn’t make your opinion any more valid than mine. So you are saying your husband would turn down the opportunity of showcasing his talent on a show like X factor because he wouldn’t want to belittle himself? Or is the reality that he just wouldn’t cut it and knows it but prefers to pretend he is above it? i think you will find yourself amongst a tiny minority (maybe just you and your husband?) who thinks that Christopher Maloney’s performance last night belittled him. Rather it brought him to the attention of the public who can now admire him for his talent – you think he should just stay in his call centre and preserve his integrity? I think there is an awful tang of sour grapes eminating from you. If you don’t want to watch X Factor then that is up to you but don’t denigrate those talented singers who have found success from the show and wouldn’t otherwise have found it without the show. Personally I think it’s great uncomplicated TV viewing and CM’s performance last night made me feel fantastic inside whilst he was singing and yes I shed a tear or two – and it had nothing to do with the sob story or his sweet old gran – it was all about admiring someone with a fantastic singing voice who had the talent to move me. Sorry if this jars with your integrity.
lol I,m so over commenting on here now ,now I know what nasty things can come out of people,s mouths you carry on watching your much loved crap tv show and thinking your god on your sofa and deeming who wins xfactor, to then find out after the show they dump him/her from there contract ,because the next xfactor winner is out and so on and so on keep the factory line going .I,ll stick to my minority side and thank god for that .
Sounds like a failed X Factor contestant to me.
and you sound like a troll to me ,have a happy life doing that !
Cat (by name and nature apparently) you say you watched the link for the first and last time here but I’ve seen a similar comment from you on the Mirror site. So, not quite telling the full story there are you. Pot and Kettle springs to mind. Also, the X factor is a talent show and, for decades, many talented performers have got their start on TV talent shows, it has nothing to do with whether they have integrity or not. Is he undeserving in some way because the programme led with the story of his nan and his nerves? They could equally have led with the story of a lad from Liverpool who tried to make it as a singer on cruise ships but ended up working in a call centre. You continue to try to make it on the cruise ships luv, and when someone offers you a break on TV, don’t accept it unless the show has integrity. Cos, of course that’s what you’d do. And, don’t choke on your own bile.
Well said, my thoughts exactly!
I have never made a comment in the daily mirror are you a family member by any chance,My comments were never directly about one person on the xfactor it was about the whole concept of the show and what it does on a whole to Singers/Songwriters/Musicians .It just so happened I saw this link,I know who I am and what counts to me,so you can just carry on trolling, and being nasty the world seems so sad with people like you in it.
So, you didn’t say anything personally about CM? In your first post you said, “made me laugh with the shaky hand and crying with his nan in the wings”. Actually it was you who came on this board to spout your negativity. The rest of the posts on this board have been either been entirely positive, or calling you to account for your bitter tirade. No-one is naive enough to think that most of those who take part in the X factor go on to lasting success. Does the x factor machine have a responsibility to ensure the lasting success of its contestants? Does any agent? Record companies drop artists all the time. Show business is a ruthless business as you (or your husband) know. That’s why it’s the struggle that you describe above. So why, given that contestants need to make their own way once they have had the fantastic exposure of the x factor, does that mean they have any the less integrity? And btw, I look a bit rough in the morning before I put my face on, but I object to being called a troll!
What an amazing and incredible voice. He deserves to be the winner of X Factor 2012. I would love to hear his rendition of that song on CD.
Never sung in public before? My arse. He worked on a cruise ship and had his own show.
Catliverpool, you are only making these silly comments because you peeled
Potatoes on the cruise ship when I sung, I’m sorry I turned you down for a date. X
troll……………
Okay, think I’m beginning to understand. Anyone who disagrees with you is a troll, right? And anyone with any talent who dares to put his head above the parapet is belittling himself and has no integrity. What a strange warped view of the world you have.
I,m not even gonna read your comment ,You just carry on trolling I,m off to real life not this virtual crap….
I think if you read back all the comments on this site you will see it was you and you alone that turned it sour with your nasty comments about CM and XFactor – so go back to your real life and leave the rest of us alone. You seem like a very bitter person to me so can’t be a very happy real life you have – I feel sorry for you.
Well said Dawn, she seems a bit bitter to me. One of these people in a minority who cant see anyone doing good for themselves.
WARNING !!! to anyone who see,s the Xfactor and shows like this as bile ,PlEASE DO NOT COMMENT HERE!
as you will be attacked and trolled……….
So please move on ..
Thankyou
ps do you not think I know its the same person trolling get a life you saddo!
So now you think Jen Sculler, Billy T, Christopher Maloney and me are all the same person? It hasn’t occurred to you that me may just share the same opinion about you? Paranoid as well as bitter and twisted. Think you need to go and have a chat to someone, exorcise all those nasty angry bitter thoughts
Lol, Dawn,
I don’t know why Im saying lol to myself though
Lol
Absolutely fantastic! I cant wait to hear you again. Well done X
Reading the above, the only person attacking anyone is Cat, a fellow Liverpudlian I think.
I am not fussed either way and feel that it’s wrong for X-Factor to even go on with the sob stories.
If he has done cruise ships, so what but I don’t understand why not to admit it either.
Each to his own, damn good voice. One of my fave songs and a very difficult one to sing – he nailed it perfectly.
Cat, I am not a troll, just a 56 year old mum of two expressing her personal opinion:)

The CM audition was so inspirational.
Work hard, drive forward, take your breaks, use the opportunities, ignore negative people and embrace positivity.
Life is too short to care what other people think, eventually you will make it.
Christopher Maloney was sensational!I rarely get emotional but Chris made me cry before he even started to sing! His friends and family should be truly proud of him. I certainly was. Christopher, you were absoluteky brilliant! I hope you go far. x
Christopher is a wonderful singer and I have to say that if he was putting on the Shaking and quaking then, not only does he have a terrific voice, he is one of the most talented actors I have ever seen.
However I really do believe he is genuine and shame on whoever it was who damaged his self esteem so profoundly. I hope they were watching and that will be one in the eye for them.
Go for it Christopher.
Well I watched the show again tonight (sorry catliverpool, realise I have no integrity!) and have to say there were some pretty fantastic acts (also some dross but that’s to be expected) and congrats to X Factor for bringing them to us, and yes, some of them moved me to tears again! Can’t wait to get to the judges houses. I think this is a particularly strong year.
CM was awesome! I had the privelidge of working with him many moons ago on the island of Rhodes. He was awesome then and is even better now! Go Chris you should be proud of yourself. Believe in your talent and you will reap the rewards.
Take away the sob story, and this guy was average.. decent enough to go through, but that is it. I thought this before finding out he sang on a cruise ship. What a piece of fake garbage. He mislead on purpose. It happens. On Americas got talent, a guy faked being injured in the war. He got busted. These shows are giving contestants the idea that they have to have these stupid sob stories to get through.. Guy is an average singer, without much range.
You know, I think you could do with a dose of advice from Mrs Rabbit to her son Thumper(in Bambi?)which was “If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all!”. That said, I think you might benefit from having your ears syringed.
