Shayne Ward thinks he should be the new X Factor judge when the show returns later this year.
The Dancing On Ice contestant of course won the show back in 2005 and he thinks he could become the next Cheryl Cole if bosses just gave him a chance to prove himself.
Cole was not a popular choice for the ITV show when Simon Cowell first hired her in 2008, but went on to become the nation’s sweetheart after she showed her best assets and mentoring skills while appearing weekly on the talent show.
Ward thinks he could take the same path and told The Sun:
“When Cheryl joined X Factor lots of people said, ‘Why is she on it?’ But she had a right to be there. She went through a talent show. Like Cheryl, I went on the show, competed, I won and I have a valuable opinion.
“That is why she was so great on the show — because people knew she had a right to say what she said.”
Ward was mentored by longest serving judge Louis Walsh when he competed on the show but also became close to reality TV star Sharon Osbourne who was not shy about expressing her lust for the young hunk.
He thinks viewers would tune back in and ratings could be massively improved if bosses brought both him and Shaz back to the show and made the most of their flirtation and chemistry for the new series.
The Rock Of Ages star giggled:
“Bring me and Sharon back — we’ll just be flirting all the time.
“I do miss Sharon. When I did the show people were just waiting for our banter.”
For now Shayne will have to content himself with Dancing On Ice after he and Maria Filippov avoided elimination once more on Sunday night. The pair were back in rehearsals yesterday, planning their next routine before they return to the rink today. Ward tweeted:
“Day off today with @mariafilippov but no rest for the wicked. Strategy for nxt wk The game continues.!”
He thanked his fans for their continued support writing:
“A massive thank you 2 every1 who voted 4 me and @mariafilippov tonight. I loved our performance We have worked so hard. #OnWards&Upwards”
