Daniel Evans Brings X Factor’s Next Sob Story!
ANOTHER UPDATE: FOR ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND GOSSIP ON DANIEL CLICK HERE
UPDATE: OK, so I actually watched Daniel’s audition tonight and I admit to being moved to tears. I wouldn’t like him to get through to the finals on the basis of his story alone. But he is a great singer and his story was certainly very moving.
Not that I am a cynical person, but I can smell an X Factor sob story a mile off and I am sure we are in for a big one on tomorrow night’s X Factor show.
Father of three 38 year old Daniel Evans from Essex came to the auditions with his Mum and youngest daughter, 11 month old Anna Maria. Daniel is a pool cleaner but explains he does whatever he can at the moment to make money but he’s come to the auditions today as it’s a wish his wife, and family have always had for him. Having almost applied every year for the show, this year he decided to take the plunge because he “believes life is too short and you regret more the things you don’t do than the things you do, and if I do this at least I can say to my wife I tried. To do this and have a career in singing for my family would be amazing”.
Once in the audition room Daniel explains his current situation to them, “Every year I have had the forms but never filled them in and always found an excuse, then last year after giving birth to my gorgeous baby girl, my wife unfortunately passed away, and so I obviously learnt some hard lessons and realised life is too short so now I decided this year to go for it so at least I can say I tried”. Singing Barry Manilow’s Sometimes When We Touch both Cheryl and Dannii are bought to tears by his moving rendition, with Cheryl saying that “I can see why your wife wanted you to audition, she’d be very proud”.
Now I am not disputing that Daniel is good, but every year do we need to have an X Factor finalist crying over a dead family member? It’s on the verge of becoming cliched!

you cynical cow! how about you have somebody close to you pass away, he was a fabulous singer & his tragic past made it all the more touching. i cant believe there are such negative people in this world.
September 6th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Whether you are touched or not by the sadness of his wife’s passing, the fact remains that he has a very good voice. I lost my dad, brother and sister within 14 months….and until you go through it, I suggest you keep it zipped…… you obviously are a very incaring person and lack empathy with your fellow human beings.

I agree with milly, if you’ve ever lost somebody then you will know what it’s like, look at the bigger picture. I loved his voice, it was of a country style and his sound was very soft and i think he could become even better with training. The emotion he was able to bring to it from his experience made it that more special. I would be happy to see him win.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
The song is actually by Dan Hill, not Barry Manilow. You may find that as being pedantic, however, I’m pretty sure both artists would have a problem with being misquoted.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I lost my Dad and it was really tough but if I went on a show like this I would keep that to myself. I hate, hate, hate it when people use personal tragedy to get ahead in life. Talent shows are about talent and if you have enough of it you will get through. You wouldn’t go for a normal job interview and talk about your personal situation and if you did, no way would you get the position. I would have a lot more respect for someone who waited until the show was over and then said that it was the memory of such and such that kept them going because at least then you would know that it was genuine and not a sympathy stunt for votes but it seems in this day and age, everytime you open a paper or turn on the telly, there is someone disclosing deeply personaly family information. Is nothing sacred anymore?

hi im sorry but i just dont know how people could be so rude. he only told this to the judges because his wife wanted him to go to the show but he never got the chance and at that exact moment he was probably thinking of her. you would know what it feels like if you had gone through something like that. he is a lovely person and has gone through a big tragedy as he lost his wife who he loved dearly. and for you rkind infromation he hasnt brought in this sob story so that he could go ahead in like because he has got talent aswel and his is just so touching and beautiful.
id just like to say that u should have a heart for people like this

Just to reply to marys statement about his sob story.
Like you say in your story, bascly shit hapens to everyone, i know that! But the fact that he has used his tragedy to spur him on to do something he has always wanted to do, is a good thing, maybe the reason he mention his situation was to remind himself why he was doing it. Instead of all the people that have thier shit and just plod along with life as normal. With shows like this and storys like this, its shows that this world does have compassion after all, and people arnt all as cold hearted as you appear to be, which is why this world is in the mess its in now!

I lost my partner two and a half years ago, one week after giving birth to our third child so I know how hard it is to rebuild your life. One thing no one see’s is the pain you carry inside.
So I wish Danny all the best and hope he goes on to become the winner of X Factor.
God Bless You

Dan looks an utter knob hanging out with people half his age in that friggin’ house.
He can stick his wife story up his ass. Sod-all relevance to the show.
I’ve yacked on YouTube about this year’s XF. Get on there and type ‘X Factor Andy Sword Monologues Part 6′ into the searchbox.

Andy Sword… i think thats so rude of you and a disgusting comment, which lacks respect.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:18 am
Spot on after Saturdays show that will be the last time i watch the xfactor we have all lost someone but after watching him on the 25.October 2008 cracking up what chance did Scott have non he might just have not sang in the sing off L Walsh who called him all sorts then cried(SIMON)make this the last year these emotional excuses are not on.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:12 am
in response to andy sword… when i was younger i always preferred to hang out with older people, people my age were idiots and had hardly any experiences and hence no personality. daniel is always humble and takes judges comments well, im glad scott is gone, he was always crying. at least daniel had reason to get upset, he’s had major experiences in life and has a very good voice.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Its not hard to see who the two morally bankrupt abnormal
sick morons are!! maybe we should give you two the intellectual BS white coat treatment and put you in the spotlight.
what a pair of gutless talentless soul devoid attention seeking critics or pair of Dozy Twunks for short.
Hooray!! Well done to Danny Evans and supporters
October 26th, 2008 at 11:33 am
jst want to say as much as i feel sorry for daniel and losing his wife and all – he should not keep bringing it up because he is using his wife as a reason for votes when he should jst be relying on the talent she believed him to have. as for andy sword you are in my opinion a complete prick. have u ever gone through something like that? i doubt it because if that is your emotional sensitiveity nobody is going to want to be with you.
go daniel!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
my point exactly Esther when he first came on i felt sorry for him and ive never said i hav’nt but when you get to the last 12 he should not bring it up again last night was disgraceful and everyone concerned with the xfactor should be ashamed of themselves it did not take a lot of working out that he said he was singing this last song for his wife which he did and the judges should have said that was a nice farewell song and i think he would have been happy why cant people just think of what he said instead of saying irrelevant quotes to the likes of me i really think this should be the last series of the xfactor because of people coming on like that what do you say to that Bob just use your brain it happened last year aswell. (-:
October 26th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
He just sung better with more moving emotion
obviously its not going to appeal to people off there heads on drugs listening to Amy Smackhead wanting to go rehab mindless tripe.
its not a sob story the way the author of the site has implied, its a celebration of life and hes not wallowing in self pity or drowning his sorrows in a bottle hes actually had the guts to get up there and make meaning out of what happened in his life and that takes courage.
That why there will always be far more people supporting his heartfelt talent then the tiny minority of mindless heart crushing armchair critics who think there real big men and tough.when in reality your just thought thugs spreading your spurious unsensitive plaque onto others.
shame on you
October 26th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
i’m not getting into the way he sings ? shame on me you are the one leaving yourself open to all sorts with your comments about other singers and leaving your own life story!!you remind me of Ken Barlow by the way.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Mr Baz
I was referring to what Big issue seller Andy Sword sprawled in his illiterate tirade.
Such utterances shouldn’t go unpunished by the mass of good people.
Has for your comments they are accurate and tend to agree.
However in my summing up i believe it wasn’t a blatant piece of opportunism on Daniel part but rather coincidental piece of great theater unfolding.
Has for my other comments regarding others singers they are merely made out of observation of society has a whole, which i add you may wholehearted agree Victor(Baz)Meldrew
October 27th, 2008 at 10:47 am
HI BOB,
I THIS TIME AGREE WITH ALL OF YOUR EMAIL I WAS LOOKING FOR YOU TO SAY A CERTAIN THING (opportunism on Daniel part).
I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THAT YOUNG LAD WHO LOST OUT BECAUSE OF ALL THE EMOTION ON THE NIGHT YOU ONLY HAD TO LOOK AT HIS FACE TO KNOW WHAT HE WANTED TO SAY HE DID THE RIGHT THING BY MORE OR LESS SAYING NOTHING I HOPE HE MAKES IT AND SIMON HELPS HIM. IF DANIAL WAS ASKED WAS THE RESULT RIGHT ON THE NIGHT IM 100% HE WOULD SAY NO,BUT LIKE YOU SAY IT TOOK THE RESULT BECAUSE OF OPPORTUNISM.
I’M SORRY FOR THE WEN BARLOW BIT.
BARRY

JUST TO LET OTHERS KNOW I KNOW ALL ABOUT LOOSING LOVED ONES.
MY MOTHER WAS RAN OVER AND I SEEN HER LYING DEAD SMASHED TO BITS ON THE OPERATING TABLE IN HOSPITAL 2 MINUTES AFTER DOCTORS HAD TRIED TO SAVE HER LIFE SO I KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE.
IT WAS NOT MY INTENTION TO INSULT DANIAL OVER HIS LOSS I DONT THINK I DID ANYWAY I WAS MAD AT THE JUDGES SHAME ON THEM 3.
DANIAL HAD THE CHANCE TO GO OUT ON A HIGH NOT GOT FURTHER JUST TO GET HURT AGAIN.
THIS WILL BE MY FINAL COMMENT GOOD LOOK TO ALL OF THEM THAT ARE LEFT IN BUT I WILL NEVER WATCH THE XFACTOR AGAIN.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:37 pm
There is no way on this earth Daniel deserves to be at where he currently is on the X Factor. I can guarantee, that if is wife had not passed, he wouldn’t be where he is now. I have had 5 miscarriages, and there is absolutely no way on this earth I would use any of my children as an excuse to gain the sympathy of anyone for my own benefit.
November 2nd, 2008 at 12:07 am
Daniel’s family situation shouldn’t be a reason for him coming so far in the show. It should be his voice… and voice-wise he won’t be selling records for the younger generation or just… music overall. I think I’ll cry I have to listen to his voice belting through the speakers in every store. His album, will ultimately… be rubbish, with the front cover being a black and white close-up of his face in some form of dramatic pose, and we’ll all weep over his tragedies.
I think everyone is unfair to think he should win because he’s a strong person. Just because everyone on the X Factor hasn’t lost a loved one… doesn’t mean they don’t have talent. If losing a family member is all it takes to win a show like that, then it’s no longer a talent show, but a show for sob stories and tragedies.
Basically, if the guy didn’t sound like he was in a hotel, I’d support him. Since he does, he just needs to go. ASAP.
November 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 am
this bloody man.
austin’s gone… because THIS BLOODY MAN is still there.
grrr.
so angry.
November 4th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
i think daniel should win, but there isn’t a chance of it becasue the judges want someone joung who can make them more money, but he has a brilliant voice and his audition madem e cry. Of course i do feel sorry for him but i am following him all thw way to stardom.
November 4th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
LOL i do really feel sorry for people that have to be so negative and so child like that they have to slag this man off! He pay not have the strongest voice, but i garentee you there is a audience out there for him, and these will be the people keeping him in each week! Has it ever occured to you we dont all like listening to little spoilt children that say its been thier dream since forever (when they are only like 15 years old!!) Its a joke!! Thats why the worlds in such a state, fall outta school let ya mummy and daddy pay for drama school or singing classes, and then you are automactilly owed fame! NEWSFLASH U AINT!!!This man has worked all his life (unlike these children u seem to be so fond off!) why do you have to take away something he has worked soo hard to get to??? Do you really feel that synical about your own life that you have to try bring him down to your level?? Ruth for example all this shit that shes not well every week? Its all put on its all rubbish! The xfactor is as much about acting as it is singing and you would be hypercrictal to to say you prefer any of the others over him beocz of his sob story, becoz they are all at it!As for the lady that says she does want his face on cds in her shop, what u prefer diana sitting there flashing her knickers, or ruth with her tits out?? Id rathe my son walk past and see daniel on a cover of a cd than them!!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Congrats on saturday night you deserve to be there keep your head held high
November 5th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Nothing wrong with finding inspiration from a loss. What is difficult is that it comes across as prostituting his grief to seek fame and fortune. Is it for his child’s uture? Seems kind of odd that rather then be with his daughter he has chosen a path which will take him away from her more.

Hi, I think I am a quite a bit older than you guys – this controversy about Daniel Evans.I think I am a bit older than him too, and female,(so I should like him on that basis) but the X-factor is about an outstanding singing voice and that something -Xtra. It is about the next Rod Stewart or Tom Jones, Whitney or Aretha. That is so not Daniel Evans.I am sure he is as very nice chap and what happened was really sad, but that is not what the contest is all about. For what it is worth I think that Alex Burke will come pretty damn close to fitting that bill, although most of the contestants still in are really strong this year. Remember G4 had a better career than Steve Brookstein although they only came second. We British public are a fickle lot when it comes to voting. We make up our minds and stick to them even when common sense says we have got it wrong. Cheers, guys!

Hi Daniel, I have fond memories of your Mum and Dad (Jim) when he sang in the band at the Red Lion, Leytonstone in the late 60’s. I would love to make contact with your Mum by email. We last bumped into each other around 1994 in Church Lane Leytonstone, when your Mum told me that Jimmy had passed away the year before (I think I have got it right – I’m 59 so I tend to forget!!). I vote for you weekly – you are the image of your Dad on stage, and wish you all the very best for the future. I see your Mum of TV etc. with your baby daughter, she obviously loves you both very much. Anyway, if you have time please pass this message on for me as I would love you hear from her. Kind regards, Sally
November 15th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
- Oh, I forgot to say that Pauline and I first met when we worked together at H Kennard & Son (Solicitors)in Leytonstone High Road.

i was really upset to see daniel get voted off tonight, hes a really nice guy , lovely romantic vioce & really georgeous. i will miss you daniel
November 16th, 2008 at 12:10 am
does any one know where you can get a picof daniel , i was in tears tonight , x factor wont be the same , as for louie ive never seen any oneso rude , at least simon gave daniel a chance
November 16th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Hurrah! He’s out! What a fat waste of talentless space. I thank my lucky stars that I won’t be seeing his cheesy mug plastered all over the side of busses and on billboards and hear his dull pub karaoke voice on the radio and in the shops. Everybody…Please just admit it….he DID NOT deserve to get as far as he did, let alone go any further. He’ll go far touring local pubs as a musical Ricky Gervais tribute act. Crack mum Rachel to go next!…..
November 16th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I totally agree with all the people who have stuck up for Daniel Evans – especially Milly. I am sorry I cannot remember all the names. He is good looking and has a lovely voice and blow the story of his poor wife passing away in childbirth – he did not use this to gain an advantage. 38 IS NOT OLD for goodness sake – the poor chap is heartbroken – where is everybody’s compassion?
Simon Powell’s unkind and cruel remarks should be totally disregarded. He hasn’t a clue about the real and tragic world – a bit of jealousy regarding Daniel’s good looks and popularity perhaps?
It is wonderful that he is taking the responsibilities of bringing up his daughter seriously and his personal life is entirely his own business and should not be up for comment by the newspapers or anyone else.
November 16th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Daniel will probably now make a reasonable living singing in the bars in the part of Spain where he lives. It is a bit cloying when he was given a place out of six because of his story and not on merit as one of the eliminated girls in that final group of six was a much better singer than Daniel. Or was it a choice because it was fitting to have at least one man in the final three?
November 19th, 2008 at 12:56 am
LOL! @ Monsieur X. Nice one.
Also had to laugh at all the verbal bollocks that came after my hallowed comment.
Especially the boob who invaded my personal space on YouTube LOLOL!
Of course, Daniel has finally been returned to the obscurity he deserves.
To address one of the finger-wagging comments above, yes I have lost a loved one. But I forgot about it years ago, as is healthy, and I sure as hell don’t expect anyone else to give a toss.
Bob, ‘Big Issue seller’ was a bit playground. And the word you were looking for is ’scrawled’ not sprawled.
Finally… Daniel and similar duds like Cyril and the four-eyed tard who fancied Louie, they are kept in the running so that excited no-hopes will audition the following year.
A x

aww. i don’t understand why everyone hates daniel, i don’t and i’m gonna miss him this week. i hope he understands that things will get better and i wish him all the luck for his family. nobody deserves that and i think its wrong that people are saying he was only in the competition because of his story, he got as far as he did because people loved him and voted for him to stay. i’m gonna shut up now i think im in love!!
from the x factors no. 1 fan!! xx

I tell you what. It seems Daniel’s causing a bit of a stir on his My Space at the moment. He’s just put a couple of his own demos up on his page and he sounds NOTHING like he did on XFactor. I didn’t like him on the show, but I couldn’t help going and listening to this stuff – to prove myself right, I suppose. Except now I’m converted!! People should go and listen and judge him on his own stuff – not the XFactor set up. Should he be a recording artists? I’m starting to think so!
