Dermot O’Leary is reportedly closer than ever to landing the presenting job on Simon Cowell’s new American version of The X factor.

The star flew to LA last month to meet show bosses and sources suggest that he made a great first impression.

A pal told The Sun: “They really liked him. He doesn’t have a strong accent, which helps.

“Signs are good but the final decision rests with Simon Cowell.”

Sources earlier suggested that Simon would have to chose between Dermot and Cheryl Cole for the show, after deciding that three Brits on an American TV show would be excessive.
