Dermot O’Leary talks about X Factor 2013 and the fate of Tulisa, Gary Barlow & Nicole Scherzinger
Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he has no idea who will be judging on The X Factor this year and he doesn’t expect to find out any time soon either.
The hunky star has presented the ITV show since 2007 but insists that he only finds out the lineup about a week before the judges auditions start.
There have been reports that Simon Cowell will return, Tulisa will be sacked, Nicole Scherzinger replaced and Gary Barlow is set to walk but Dermie knows nothing about any of it and on Loose Women today said:
“I have no idea. …..In terms of judges we never know. I didn’t know who the judges were up until a week before last year. It’s all about diary and it goes to the last minute.”
He’s not too worried about who might come in either, though that wasn’t always the case. He confessed that he was very concerned about the series two years ago, when Cheryl Cole and Simon left and explained:
“When Simon and Cheryl left, I thought ‘that’s it right?’ and for about a month it was just me and Louis [Walsh] and I thought ‘oh I’ve made a big mistake here.’ But, it just goes to show how robust that format is, because Gary has done such a great job, Nicole has come in and done a great job this year as well and Tulisa won last year.”
Dermot loves being on the singing competition and hosting the weekend specials and continued:
“I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love it. It’s so much fun, it’s a nine month gig for me so if you couldn’t totally immerse yourself in the brilliance and the insanity of it then you shouldn’t be doing it.”
“You have got a real family feel there and for me, I love doing live telly and it gives me 20 shows to do a year.”
Dermi married his long-term girlfriend Dee Koppang in September of last year and will soon celebrate his first Valentines Day as a married man. He isn’t planning anything too extravagant though and laughed:
“I’m a 365 romantic. I’m at it every day.”
