Dermot O’Leary To Present X Factor 2007
ITV announced today that Dermot O’Leary will be the new host of The X Factor. The presenter has signed a deal that will see him host the hit entertainment show for the next two series.
Dermot said: ‘I was very flattered to be offered the job to host such a hugely successful show. I’m really looking forward to working with Simon and the team on the kind of Saturday night entertainment show I grew up watching.’
Dermot is best known for hosting Big Brother’s Little Brother, Big Brother’s Big Brain and the BBC’s lottery show 1 vs. 100.
Duncan Gray, ITV’s Controller of Entertainment said, ‘Dermot is a star. He’s warm, clever and funny and he was our number one choice for the job. We’re thrilled to have him on ITV and we’re sure he’ll keep The X Factor the nation’s number one entertainment show for many years to come.’
Dermot and the team will commence their audition tour in May and will visit city centres across the country in the biggest talent search on television. Leona Lewis, winner of last year’s series, scored a number one with her single ‘A Moment Like This’ and runner up Raymond Quinn is currently at number one in the charts with his debut album.
The X Factor’s fourth series – which starts on ITV in the summer – will feature a fourth Judge and another category. Contestants will be split into 14 – 24s Boys; 14 – 24s Girls; 25s and Overs and Groups.
Richard Holloway, Executive Producer of The X Factor said: ‘With each series of The X Factor we have always strived to make the show bigger and better and this year with Dermot and four Judges I’m sure the viewers are in for a “xtra” special series.”

No disrespect to Dermot O’leary, he is a great guy but my personnal preference is that Kate Thornton remains as presenter, she adds value to the show and has been an excellent presenter, if it aint broke why fix it, M

I feel both gutted and cheated at the way you conduct your auditions. After receiving an audition letter for the monday 26th may, my husband booked two flights and hotel for the two nights at a cost of around £600, we set off early sunday luchtime packing our 3 very young children off to stay with various people for the 2 nights before we caught our flight from Jersey to London, we arrived at our hotel around 9pm then got a taxi to the O2 sight to get more information ie what time we should get there to beat the crowd, after one and a half hours sleep we got ready and arrived at the O2 sight by cab at around 4.50am where the rain was pouring down and the wind was howling for the whole duration which I may add I did not mind as I was looking forward to the auditions. we were all let in around 9.15am soaking wet and moral low by this point but still looking forward to the auditions but I tell you this is what I am really sad about!. and that is (a) the auditions not actually starting until 11.50am and (b)being missled as to being judged by Sharon,Simon and the others. Instead we were all judged by one person who didn’t seem to give a damn an dyo be told “that was great you definately can sing but unfortunately i have a list of criteria and on this occasion it’s a no”. I am not a fruit cake, I am an average person who has had a dream of singing all my 46 years of my life, I unlike lots of people did not have any encouragement from my parents who quite frankly didn’t give a damn either but I just wanted to let you know that I have lost all interest in even singing again and feel very cheated about the way you used these people as lambs to the slaughter. I would have rather sent in a photo and demo to be told at that stage that I did not fit your criteria, whatever that was, you see I was never told by the gentleman who auditioned me. I hope the judges get to read this, I am sure I am not alone in my thoughts.
