Does X Factor Bring Out The Racist In Us?

Leona Lewis’ mother has recently claimed that the X factor is racist and because of this her daughter will never win.

GMTV’s Fiona Phillips also believes that the Great British Public have been displaying racist tendencies while voting in shows like the X factor and Strictly Come Dancing.

After last nights shock eviction of Robert Allen many people have claimed that this failure to vote for Robert, who was definitely one of the most talented people on the show, proves that racism is alive and well in the UK.

A few weeks I would have strongly disagreed with this analysis, but now I’m not so sure. Our voting behaviour is certainly not based on talent or merit, so how do we choose who to vote for?

I’d be interested in hearing other peoples view on this matter. Do you think the British Public are racist at heart?

I am not sure what my opinion is on the Racist issue.

I would have thought that the British public would vote for a good performer like Robert; whatever his colour. We like good music, good performers. Robert is outstanding and absolutely fantastic. He has I beleive something very special. His performances are unique. In my opinion he’s the best out of the Bunch and I cannot wait to see and hear him sing again.

It is very unjust that Simon Cowell voted Robert out. I don’t think that we should be looking at the public vote for the reason, but at the three so called judges who have the last word. Particularly caustic lips, Simon C.

I like Eaton Road, but they are not as good nor as fantastic as Robert Allen. They are just show bisiness infants, in their early throws of entertainment.

Simon Cowell did not judge from ‘purely from the talent’as he said he would but WENT BACK ON HIS WORD and gave the reason for keeping ER in because ‘ER could progress further in the contest’……? and failed to judge from talent. Robert’s mentor even agreed and backed up Simon Cowell, reasoning that Robert had been in the bottom two three times now, despite his wonderful performances.

Earlier, Simon Cowell had also said in an interview….that he hadn’t before reckoned on Robert being a threat, but now he felt differently……..So he obviusly judged Robert to be on a par with Leona….that still begs a question; because Simon Cowell is the one who puts up the money for the winners Recording Contract, the question is Why is Robert a threat??? If he thought [and he obviously did] that Robert could win over Leona….so what?? judging by Roberts wonderful singing and performances, Robert would have probably made Cowell some money….so it really doesn’t add up!

Also Sharon Osborne was pretty quiet about losing ‘her’ Robert and I feel that she hasn’t supported Robert as much as she seems to support Ben.
It did seem to me that it was going to happen that Robert would go.
Those running the show have lost their credibility as far as I am concerned. So to conclude it is clearly not the public who have the last vote or the last word, no matter what the three mavericks say.

They have the last word and they each have their own favourites still in the show, no matter how bad a performance they give.

Simon Cowell has also given it out ‘that history shows that girls don’t win the competition ‘

Is Simon Cowell now attempting to brain wash the public as to the outcome?? Even his friend Chris Tarrant repeated Simon Cowells statement to Ben Shepherd. Is the X Factor judges laying out the stall for someone like Ben? whilst drip feeding the public that ‘girls don’t win’

Even in the recent Children Awards on TV, Simon Cowel coined the phrase to a little girl who was bewildered by him saying to her ‘Little girls should vote for little girls’. Clearly his mind was not on that childs achievments, then declares on the show that he liked children and animals…….

Also Ben has been given more support than any of the others by his metor Sharon Osborne
    1. He didn’t have to sing Swing with the Swing band, but was let off and had the use of a piano. [He is likened to Rod Stuart, Rod now sings Swing]? He was also likened to Meat Loaf, [by Louis [Meat Loaf, sings with Opera singers]

Ben,on the other hand seems to winge and panic about doing anything different.

And is sent to a specialist on Harley Street and made a miraculous recovery!

One thing that Simon Cowel is very good at and that is bulling a contestant up then letting them down with a bang. Robert showed he was above all that, Robert is a winner!!

    I rest my case…………….

YOU RAISE ALOT OF VERY INTERESTING POINTS MURRAYMINT, I, no matter who had been in the bottom 2 with ROBERT this week, had I been a voting judge with THE decision to make I would have had to look at the public who are taking time and spending money to vote for the acts and who had placed ROBERT in the last 2 for 3 of the 6 weeks of the finals. I would have had to send him home after that, UNLESS who was with him had lost their lines or failed badly other ways but ETON ROAD were really good, that is not an easy song to do at all. YOUR points though make interesting reading.ROD,Newcsatle

Does x factor bring out the racist in us - absolutely not.

People who keep bringing out the race card are just stirring things up.

Robert has a fantastic voice but in my opinion he had an image problem - I dont think people knew what audience he was aiming for - his songs were dated and he dressed to old for him.

When he was first auditioning he looked and sounded much more ’street style’ and it suited him. If Ashley had Robert’s voice or Robert had Ashley’s style they would both be still in the show. Its not about race.

But there will always be pockets of people who will always vote for their own kind and so I wonder how many black people will vote for Ben or Eton Road. If people want to make trouble those people should look at themself and really ask who they vote for and why.

I don’t think that the public are voting as racists - I think its really sad that racism is being blamed for Robert and Ashley leaving….obviously racism does exist throughout society (in all cultures, not just the obvious white and black), but its almost being used as a guilt trip here, so that for example if Ben does win over Leona the racist card will be played as a reason for her not winning.

I certainly will only vote for my favourite and am torn b/wn Ben & Leona at the moment as both are fantastic talents.

Its just sad that these comments are being made about the voting, when they should be about talent and charisma and likability.
