One Direction fans are not a happy bunch this week after it was revealed that their favourite boyband has not been nominated in any category at this year’s MTV VMAs.
MTV confirmed their nominations yesterday, July 17, 2013 and the star studded award ceremony is set to take place on August 25 at Barclays Center in New York City, but as things stand Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan stand no chance of walking away with a gong.
The 1D videos that were eligible for nomination were for singles “Live While We’re Young,” “Little Things” and “One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks),” however none of the three were named in any category and fellow teen idol Justin Bieber was also missing from the list.
Fans around the world have threatened to boycott the ceremony when it airs on TV later this summer, though some did concede that they would tune in if their idols turned up to perform on the night.
There was much ranting and upset online and one fan tweeted:
“Haha what?! One Direction & Bieber weren’t even nominated for a VMA?? Lol MTV you are messing w/ the wrong fanbases like wat r u doing??”
“Oh well 1D & Justin Bieber haven’t been nominated for the VMA’s! Gonna be losing viewers MTV!”
A third said:
“Justin and One Direction aren’t nominated for VMA’s, well good luck to MTV they are gonna lose so many viewers this time..”
“one direction and justin bieber aren’t nominated for vma”
“good luck with viewers mtv you’ve not got two of the most famous artists there”
Other nominees include taylor Swift, Macklemore, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Pink, Demi Lovato, Fun and Miley Cyrus.
The folks at MTV may have made a bit of a mistake, as there are few fanbases as big as the Directioners and Beliebers online currently.
Today 1D released the third teaser for their new single ‘Best Song Ever’ which featured Harry rocking the geek chic and within an hour of the clip appearing on Youtube, #BestSongEverTrailer became a Top 10 worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
